OMG ! I was tortured with Kitty Wells as a young man. My mum would tell me to get out of bed on Sunday. She would put on a kitty Wells record "Stand by your man". As the player was directly under my room, I would RUN down the stairs to turn it off....lol
I hid it for years until she found it after I got married.

Well I love the stuff. Have a 5 CD collection of Ernest Tubb. My wife complained one time as I was listening to Eddy Arnold "Cattle Call" when we pulled into the Burger King drive up. She said turn it off, it's embarrassing. My daughter agreed! First album ever bought was Hank Williams.

This one came out when I was maybe a junior in High School when the only way to see these performers was on the Midnight Special. I remember driving around with Boobie and Jack (RIP brothers) ... knocking down some training rule violation Old Milwaukee and speculating in a none-too-enlightened-manner about what the female singers looked like and coming up with our own lyrics, which my Dad the Deacon would not have appreciated. THIS song was huge for a long time on Top 40. I admit I have it as part of my digital collection ... followed up immediately by Deep Purple's "Burn".

Passengers in my car go nuts because of the way I mix up music. The other day, my Boss' Boss could not believe when D&D's "Layla" was followed up by Carly Simon's "We Have No Secrets" and that was followed up with "Stealin'" by Uriah Heep (my Dad called them "Dry Heap"), followed up by the Beatles' "This Boy", followed by Zep's "Black Dog" (which is the greatest romantic love song ever written - brings a sentimental tear to one's eye)

Since I just got back from KwikTrip with my auxiliary fuel tank of coffee, THIS was the song playing when I turned off the car:

Watch the background singers and guy playing the guitar - funny... one ofthe background singers on the actual recording was Darlene Love and two other ladies who were extremely talented black vocalists ... that would be unacceptable on TV in the early 60's... Darlene Love of "Today I Met the Boy I'm Going to Marry" fame.

LOL...Your music storage/tastes sound much like mine, very eclectic. Playlists are my friend, to mainly ....keep my friends. It takes times but making playlists are kind of fun and then I can play music to fit the mood and/or the company. But I still occasionally like to hit "Play all" and just let random music from all genres play.

What I find amazing is our lyric retention. I can play back a song that I may not have heard for 20+ years and not skip a beat with the lyrics. Maybe be somewhere and the song "Amie" by Pure Prairie League comes on and soon, everyone that can hear it, is singing along. I guess that is why some people say that using music to teach other concepts can be a useful tool.

...and which song is going to play next ... unless you've hit random play. The guy the other day cringed a little bit when Tom Jones' "Help Yourself" came on, followed by the Allman Brothers. He might be the epitome of what's referred to as THE tight-assed banker.
