The Packers drafted the:
1st OLB taken (Hawk),
2nd MLB taken (Hodge),
3rd OT taken (Colledge),
3rd OG taken (Spitz),
4th WR taken (Jennings).
That is 5 players who were in the top four at their positions. That makes it a great draft by itself. But additionally, of all the college football players in the nation, the Packers also got the 8th QB taken (Martin), 12th WR taken (Rodgers).
As a bonus there were 5 more players taken in the late rounds who may or may not have the quality to make the team but will:
1) push other players and provide competition in camp but get cut.
2) could make roster or practice squad and bump out lesser talent.
3) could improve over time and be solid players
4) not make the Packers but become the Sowell's and Andruzzi's that find success elsewhere in the league.
5) provide a great suprise and be far better than expected.
When you draft as early in each round as the Packers have this year quality is expected. I think Ted Thompson delivered.
