NFL | Verba contemplating a comeback
Mon, 1 May 2006 18:15:56 -0700

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports former NFL OT Ross Verba is considering an NFL comeback. He paid the Cleveland Browns last year to break his contract, and he never landed a job. Verba has taken calls from the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals requesting visits and could be one of the most active free agent players this week.

This could be interesting. Out of football for a whole year Ross may have healed and still have something left.

My brother-in-law who used to live in Cleveland told me the story behind Verba paying the Browns to break the contract. He supposedly went to Vegas, won big bucks, entertained some loose women, and then asked the Browns to release him.

That don't make him a bad guy

I forget...was he a tackle or guard...probably worth a shot since we could get him for cheap, so worst case scenario he's just extra competition in practice.

He is going on his 10th season, and last year did not play in a single game..

this was from last year..A former first-round draft pick, Verba has said he wants be paid on a par with St. Louis All-Pro Orlando Pace and Seattle's Walter Jones, who make about $7.5 million per season. Verba was under contract to make $2.9 million in 2005 and 2006.He paid back part of his signing bonus before the season started to be released from the Browns..He never had another team sign him...

He is not going to get that type of money from GB, much less any other team...I could see GB offering a very very reduced down contract of that $7.5 million..But being a 10 year vet, and out of football for over a year, he would probably be a back up...HE WAS an awesome player, I really hated seeing him leaving...

This is probably the biggest reason I do not want him here...he has not lead the most innocent life...A lady was "drugged and abused" at his house last year, ( all be it she admitted she lied but another lady has come out and said same thing) gambling and winning 500K then using the money to host a swim suit party..

Hell...if I were younger, had the money and access to hot trollups......my house would look like a scene from Caligula on a regular basis. LOL

Verba is toast -- we do not need him. There are other Vets we should conside as they become available, but not Ross.
