I noticed that at times and thought that was only a mike vick thing you do, not to an accurate qb like arod

No. Not a real running threat like Vick. It opens up too much of the field. Do you ever watch nfl matchup on sunday mornings (I think it comes on at 7am (I tivo it, as I am still hungover at that hour) and they did an amazing job of breaking it down on how it let ARod carve out the Atlanta D.
