Where's Brett been lately? My god ... it's like he fell of the face of wherever the heck he is. :D

Sorry guys, I've always liked Favre and his crazy nature. He was pretty quiet during his visit to GB for Bart's weekend.

My wife purchased 8 tickets to a B.F. speaking engagement in Sioux City Jan. 11th. My grandsons were there and 1 of them had 2 hats on, 1 from a friend and his own, hoping to get them autographed by Brett. He spoke and answered questions from a moderator for about an hour and then just left.
Totally disappointed. Was thinking he would at least throw a few balls to some of the kids and sign some autographs.
Maybe that's just what he does at his speaking engagements, but a man of his stature should at least engage somewhat with the kids.
btw, they auctioned off several Packer and Viking items and gave away many items via a raffle.

I'm not going to pretend to know a lot about this, but I remember reading that athletes in many sports have cut back on the "free autograph giving." Not that they don't do it, but there is money to be made with signed memorabilia, so whether the athlete is keeping the money for themselves or its being donated to a charity, they tend to do more paid autograph sessions these days.

It's a whole business. I suppose if they give away too many freebies, they're driving down the value of their autographs.

Personally, I've never cared about autographs. So someone signs their name on a piece of paper and they happen to be famous. So what? I've heard the picture market is getting bigger these days - getting a picture of you and the star together. Goes good with the new selfie culture.

Is there a reason on why adding a section just for Brett Farve talk? I havent noticed an increase of discussion to warrant an entire section about him.
I want to say one word to you, just one word. Are you listening? "Copper Fit". There's a great future in Copper Fit. Think about it. Will you think about it? 'Nuff said.

awesome! How many threads over the last 8 years got hijacked and descended into a favre debate? Now the only favre thread gets hijacked by a discussion of grammar. My opinion of humanity begins to heal.
Is it that your view of humanity is healing (the argument about the correct spelling of Favre’s name), or just that we are running out of things to write about. At any rate, I appreciate your humor. That seems in short supply everywhere these days. So thanks, Amish.

When I was in Cincy for the game, Antonio Freeman was upstairs at a Packer bar signing autographs. I wasn't interested but some guy came up to me and said "Hey man, don't you like Free, he's up signing things, want in?" He was one of the promoters and not many people were going upstairs. Turns out an autograph was $40, a picture with him was another $25...etc. Nothing "Free" about that. I'd rather wait in line for the mall Santa.

I used to know the sister of Jon Gruden's wife. I gave her an Atlanta rookie card and she got it signed by Favre. I asked a guy at a card store for the hellovit and he told me the card was now worth less after he signed it because no proof. I also got Joe Dimaggio to sign a receipt at the Golden Nugett and he made it out to my daughter. I guess you could check the records to at least prove he was there at that time. If the Golden Nugget is still there. I guess he used to stay there.

Yeah, I know the feeling. My parents became friends with Bonita Favre, Brett's Mom...same church and Casinos. My dad also played golf frequently with Bus Cook, Brett's agent. Anyway, my parents got a few things signed by Brett, through Bonita or Bus and same thing. No authentication of his signature...little value. Someone said the best way is to get a picture of the person signing a specific unique piece.

I remember years ago Favre came to Eau Claire to sign autographs at a local mall. He was supposed to sign for 2 hours starting at 10 or 11and people began lining up at 6 when the mall opened. He stayed an extra 30 minutes or so but many people did not get an autograph. I don't know if he charged for them (the mall might have paid the fee) but still its a huge waste of time as far as i am concerned. I might wait an hour for to get an auto for a gift if it were the right person but for myself wouldn't cross a busy street to get anybody's autograph, They just don't interest me and I certainly can't imagine paying for one especially if I didn't get in person.

I was at a Brewers game and they have the practice, before a game, of having a player go to a specified area of the stadium and sign stuff for the fans. I saw two kids standing by the fence and they would hand the player a ball, he'd sign it and hand it back, they would pass the ball back through the crowd and get another one from an adult standing further back those two kids must have gotten a dozen items signed between them. I'm not sure who the player was but he hardly even looked up from his pen long enough to see who was handing the stuff to him. He was just doing his time.

There are ways of getting autographs authenticated. I don't know how much it costs and even then the value is probably less than something that is certified. Here's the thing. I've always felt that if a person was going to fake an autograph they probably wouldn't have any problem faking a COA. Personalized autos are also said to be worth less. Bob doesn't want a ball signed "to Ben, my number 1 fan. Keep the faith" I've also read that for freebies some athletes will always personalize their autographs and I don't blame them.

Just me, but I've never seen the interest in autographs. I guess they're proof (maybe) that someone (preferably you) "met" the player, however briefly.

I gotta laugh at Freeman charging $40 for an autograph. Outside Wisconsin, and aside from his family, does anyone know his name?

Agreed. I talked to a young boy and his sister in the hotel elevator. They were both over the moon happy with just getting Freeman to autograph their hats. The Boy was a Packer fan, the sister a Bengals fan....she liked their mascot better. :) Neither of those two were even born when Freeman was a Packer.

As a kid I loved getting autographs at Badger games and Badger banquets. I still have many of the programs that they would scribble their John Hancock's on. I even mailed letters to Packer players, saying how much I liked watching them play. Typically, I would get a picture of said player back and autographed. Who knows who really autographed them? Betty in the mail room?

Ya know if it makes some kid happy then I'm all for it. As you said, they probably don't know who he is but he's obviously a Packer and a (former) star. So child happy = mission accomplished. Even if it cost $40!

I did it once for Ken Griffey Jr back in the early-90s. He was at a baseball card convention in Milwaukee so I had him sign one of his Upper Deck rookie cards. Back then those were worth about $100 each, now they are all worthless and sitting in a binder on a shelf somewhere in my house. Good lesson learned. I'd stand in line just to meet someone that I really admired but so far in life, I haven't felt THAT strongly about anyone (since Ken Griffey Jr at least).

Yeah, I stood in line for Santa Claus as a kid and then I discovered what a damn Hoax that was. No more! I only wait for the Easter Bunny!
