: Mike, Washington DC - The Bills cut Matt Flynn yesterday. Seems like signing Flynn would be a good move. Seneca Wallace is not going to lead the Packers to the play-offs or worse, any victories.
  • A: Tyler Dunne - Quiet start to the week, eh? Let's get this going. There are approximately 8,945 Matt Flynn-related questions already submitted so we'll start with Mike. ...I get it. Everybody saw what Matt Flynn did at New England and against the Detroit Lions in 2011. He's in the record books. But let's also remember how he performed at Detroit in 2010, in relief of Aaron Rodgers. He struggled. After a full week of game preparation, he excelled at New England. Seneca Wallace absolutely deserves that opportunity. The Packers' coaches see this guy every day. They know what they have. Wallace has been in this league a decade-plus --- he has a certain set of strengths the Packers can maximize. The game plan you saw on Monday is drastically different than the one you'll probably see Sunday. Are the Packers really going to get Wallace on the move when they don't even have another quarterback in pads? He'll be on the move more against Philadelphia. He's a smart player who has enough talent around him to win a few games in Aaron Rodgers' absence. If Wallace comes out Sunday and absolutely stinks up the joint, this is a conversation worth revisiting.

  • Q: Matt - Tyler-Sinc ewe signed aaron rodgers to huge contract, and now is injured. Will GB management work to beef up offense line, seems like you wouldn't want to pay a QB huge $$, and then let him get beat up every season?
  • A: Tyler Dunne - Matt: Don't think you can blame the offensive line for Aaron Rodgers suffering an injury. In general, he is a quarterback who keeps plays alive, who relies on athleticism. It's remarkable that he's been able to stay so healthy through his first six seasons as the starter. At some point, any quarterback who uses his feet so much is going to go down. Aaron Rodgers isn't Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. He makes plays outside of the pocket. He can be deadly outside of the pocket. The O-Line, this season, has been playing as well as it has since Rodgers took over. David Bakhtiari has gone toe to toe with Terrell Suggs, Jared Allen, etc. Don Barclay has been shaky at times early in games but seems to improve through the course of four quarters. I think blaming the offensive line is a convenient excuse.
  • Q: Steve, Chicago. - I'm not a head coach basher and generally like MM but does any ever bring up the fact the McCarthey seems too engrossed in his play sheet to make proper calls on challenges, timeouts, whether to accept penalties or not? He should have challenged the Quarless play knowing with Wallace you wouldn't have too many opportunities to score. It was the first challenge and had 3 timeouts so he still would have had another challenge if he lost. He misused his timeouts at the end of the game( which didnt matter because we didnt hold them) but if we did that mistake would have cost us around 45 seconds. And there have numerous times where a assistant coach has ran down and had to pull him away from his play sheet to see if he wants to accept or decline a penalty and has made mistakes their as well. I think he does a great job with the weekly game plan but lacks making the above mentioned decisions correctly when having to make them on the fly. What are your thoughts? Thanx

  • A: Tyler Dunne - Steve: This is a delicate balance for every head coach. McCarthy is in continuous communication with coaches and the quarterback. He has to constantly weigh the pros and cons of every play in every situation. Staying in the moment as a playcaller is most important. He has to know when to strike with a play-action shot deep, when to take advantage of a certain match-up. It's on assistant coaches to be additional eyes and ears for challenges. I don't see this as a concern really.

  • Q: Benjamin, Bear, DE - Tyler, I don't know about you, but I see this week as a defining game for Green Bay. Not too many teams would survive or even think about the playoffs, but not too many teams are coached by Mike McCarthy. Is this game that the rest of the NFL sees Coach for the outstanding offensive coach he really is?

  • A: Tyler Dunne - Ben: This game would certainly go a long way. If Seneca Wallace can play well with one full week of practice as the starter, that's definitely a credit to Mike McCarthy. He did that with Matt Flynn twice. The Packers will need to install a game plan that fits Wallace's strengths yet simultaneously -- as McCarthy noted himself -- doesn't hold the offense back as a whole. He won't be holding the quarterback's hand through this one. Seneca Wallace will need to make a handful of plays himself. Defenses are bound to crowd the box to stop Eddie Lacy and James Starks. Wallace will need to take advantage of one-on-one match-ups with his receivers.

  • Q: Gil, Texas - Vince Young performed better than Harrell and Coleman in preseason despite having only a few weeks of practice. He is 31-19 as a starter. Why wouldn't the Packers consider bringing him in?

  • A: Tyler Dunne - Gil: Vince Young was not good in Green Bay. The first week, he threw interceptions during walkthrough periods. The last week, he went 14 of 30 and generated two field goals against Kansas City. In between, there was a flicker of hope against Seattle. The Packers knew what they had in Young.
