Have a good laugh on Montana this morning. Yesterday we woke up to blizzard conditions, icy roads, the whole nine yards of winter. A fellow teacher lives near me up on our hill and he has his leg in a cast so I have been giving him a ride to his school, which is on the way to mine. As we start down our road, we notice traffic on Hwy 93 is going nowhere! Dead stopped.
"Oh-oh, looks like an accident somwhere between here and Missoula," he says.
"Yeh, figures. First snow and all the idiots come out to play fender bender."
John: "Let me check on your scanner where it's at and see how long the delay is.
Bob: "Good idea...it's set to the Sheriff's numbers."

bzzz...crackle,bzz,pfft......John: "Jeez two hour delay at least. It's right at the bottom of the Lolo Scales hill."
Bob: "Not while I'm driving. If we can get to McMahn's driveway on the highway, I can get around the tie-up."
John: "are you sure you know what you're doing?"
Bob: "Trust me." (first mistake) "There's a dirt road behind their place that goes along the river and comes out at the elk underpass just ahead of the accident. We can get there in no time." (second mistake)

We get on the dirt road....ten inches of blowing snow.....white out conditions.

John: "Isn't there a herd of buffalo around here somewhere?"
Bob: thinking silently...."sh--, where are those frigging buffalo?"
Dark shadows appear in the white out as we come to a dead stop.
John: "I think we found them."
Bob: "yep, and they ain't moving from the road. You get out and yell at them. They'll move."
    John" "Why me?"
Bob: "My gym shoes are leather and new. You got a fiberglass cast on, and a boot. You're better prepared."

We both got out, yelled and threw snowballs at them and they move out of the way. We got to school only slightly later than anyone else travelling the highway.
Told my wife this on the phone and all she said was..."you're an idiot."

DePack....this is Montana, not Delaware. And we're in the mountains which means snow at anytime of the year. Where we live the storms just funnel in from the west and spill out into the canyons and dump the moisture right on us. Across the valley.......sometimes nothing.

4packgirl.... I wasn't about to tangle my 4X4 with a buffalo. I figured a good snowball to the head would get their attention. These aren't tame either. There are about 70 of them brought down from the National Bison Range just north of Missoula, so they are used to open range and doing what THEY want to.

No wonder the plains folk tried to make them extinct back in the olden days,
they were holding up the settlers from moving west.

Kinda leaves Bob open to the other well-known excuse:

"Sorry, Sir, the buffalo ate my homework!" :cross:

longtimefan.....the route we took kind of paralled the highway about a halfmile away and then came back into the highway. If we hadn't played "sit and talk to the Buffalo," we would have been 20 minutes ahead of everybody. We were in thick trees so couldn't cut across open field....which I would have done.

Sometimes the best laid plans go astray. Our secretary is still laughing and has made everyone aware of my "scenic road trip."

It is a Sign from Above, an Omen or Prophecy if you will.

Coincidence that this encounter occurred the same week that the Packers play the "BUFFALO" Bills?

    I think not!

I have my own interpretation of this incredible prognostication.

    Packers stampeded by Buffalo !!!!

    ARRRGHHHHH !

That is ultmate in depravity, and an insult beyond compare !

Being called a Packer Fan.....nothing is more degrading.

    Sir, I demand satisfaction!!

Since pistols at 10 paces are not possible in cyberspace (unfortunately),
I must extract my pound of flesh in another manner.

An Avatar Challenge on the Vikings -Packers game.
If the Vikings lose, I will post an Avatar of your choosing.
If the Packers lose, you will use an Avatar of my choosing.
    For an agreed time frame.

    So trippster, are you game?

    Or are you a Packer............
