While he had hoped to be making an appearance in this week's U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, Tony Romo is getting his golf fix in this week in his home state.
Romo shot a 71 during the stroke-play first round of the Wisconsin State Golf Association Match Play Championship at Whispering Springs Golf Club in Fond du Lac, Wis., on Monday.
Romo finished in a tie for third, two strokes behind the leader. The top 64 golfers advanced to the match-play tournament that runs through Friday.
His bid to make the U.S. Open field fell short last week down at Carlton Woods Country Club in The Woodlands. After shooting a 71 on his first 18 holes, Romo got off to a bad start in the second round before a weather delay forced him to withdraw from the event with the Cowboys holding an OTA the next day.
