Now in his sixth season as the Packers' offensive coordinator, Tom Rossley enters his 29th year of coaching and 10th NFL campaign in 2005.

Under Rossley, the Packers' 2004 offensive powerhouse ranked third overall in the NFL, topping the NFC in both total offense (397.3 yards per game - the most since 1983) and passing offense (278.1 - the most since 2001). Destined to change the record books and improve an already top producer in the NFL, the offense totaled 6,357 net yards and 4,459 net yards passing, each the most in the Packers' previous 83 NFL seasons. Other single-season records for 2004 included overall first downs (354 - the most in 15 years), completions (382 - most since 1994) and fewest sacks allowed (14 - tied for the NFL lead last season).

Additionally, the Packers ranked second in the league in converting third downs (47.3 percent) and paced the NFL on third-and-6 or longer (37.4 percent). The offense also proved reliable with the NFC's fourth-best red-zone TD percentage (57.7, 30-for-52).

Over the past five seasons, Rossley's offense has executed in the most reliable fashion, ranking among the NFL's top 10 in several categories. From 2000-04, the Packers rank second in passing touchdowns (150) and fewest sacks allowed (116); fourth in completion percentage (62.1); overall touchdowns (231) and points (2,007); fifth in net passing yards (18,764), TD-to-INT ratio (1.72), passing first downs (975) and gross passing yards (19,587); sixth in total offense (29,322); and eighth in rushing yards (9,735).

In addition to the well-built offensive squad as a whole, Rossley had four offensive players voted to the 2005 Pro Bowl this past February - running back Ahman Green for the fourth consecutive season, guard Marco Rivera for the third consecutive season, 10-year veteran fullback William Henderson and wide receiver Javon Walker, the latter two for the first time.

In 2003, Rossley fielded an offensive squad that accomplished what no other NFL offense in history has produced: rushing for at least 2,500 yards, passing for at least 3,300 yards, completing at least 65 percent of its passes, rushing for at least 18 touchdowns and passing for at least 32 touchdowns. The Packers' offense jumped to fourth overall in the league, up from 12th the previous season, with 5,788 yards of offense, the second most in team annals; they also totaled 442 points, second best in club history behind the 1996 Super Bowl squad, and amassed 53 touchdowns, tying for the second most with the 1962 Packers.

I've read this PR sheet before.....

Here's the deal ---- HE's GOT MARTY-BALL...ITIS..!

When it comes down to jumpin' out of airplanes, Rossley is the last one in line and you "have" to push him out. Sure he's got great stats - the categories are endless - but it wasn't "his" Offense that "he" created. It was Ron Wolf's Offense that even " I " could go into the record books with.

Time and time again - the Offense on the field took over and altered whatever tactics Rossley wanted and molded them into winning situations - which is the mentality now missing from the current squad surrounding Favre. This current crop are more of a "here's what I'm not gonna do" type group - they know what the definition of each position is - and they use it to review what they shouldn't "have" to do... it's always someone else's fault with this bunch - hence the penalties and false starts and now even Tauscher and Clifton are showing cracks....

It's an ATTITUDE!

This, people, ...is a coaching issue.

If... and I mean a "big" ..IF.... -- if Rossley had any say whatsoever on which Players should be chosen by the now previous GM - well, it shows his true talent... and personally, I think he "did" have some say - Sherman doesn't do a thing out there without you seein' him discussin' it over the headphones... That's the shame of it.

Rossley will always be a College style Offense guy -- and will never graduate up to the next level.

What's more - while he has a LOT of stats on that list - look how many times he had to change jobs.... one University after another - all sayin' "see ya later, Tommy!" Now, while it may not have actually been that way - look at the winning Colleges of today - they all have some pretty permanent Coaching personnel. Ya think? How often do Coaching Assistants change jobs in the College ranks - what's more - with our situation why do we care...?

We've seen several people come and go during Rossley's time as OC - but the final loss of the two Guards finally snapped whatever twigs were holding the silly putty together.. Look at Dallas and Terry Glenn - amazing how he's havin' such a great time down there with the schemes playing into his talents.... and yet at GB - Rossley couldn't figure out his address.... What's more, that just one instance.....

When it comes to steppin' over that line in the sand and facin' that "bully" - Tom Rossley is a no-show! He should have never been put in that chair.... ever!

JMHO - and nothing more!

What I describe, above - is something they don't put on Coaching Resume's - because a LOT of Coaches would probably never find work - but it's a very necessary piece of info - in order to be a WINNER!

Gee..thanks WPR..

But rather than accept the propaganda...I prefer to read "between the lines"....

"Rossley spent much of his career coaching the "run and shoot"..and red gun (Jeff George) offense in Atlanta.."

Not very impressive...

"As head coach at Southern Methodist from 1991-'96 (15-48-3 record)"

--Even less impressive...

but I don't care..just as long as he's out of GB...don't even think of making him a successor to SHERMAN....!!

Sherman hires Rossley, Donatell as coordinators
By Bob McGinn
of the Journal Sentinel staff
Last Updated: Jan. 26, 2000
Atlanta - Coach Mike Sherman took his first major step Wednesday toward fielding what he hopes is an aggressive defense and a creative offense for the Green Bay Packers, securing his preferred choices as coordinators.

Tom Rossley, the quarterbacks coach of the Kansas City Chiefs who regards Sherman as his best friend in coaching, will coordinate the offense, but Sherman reiterated that he intends to call the plays.

The fact that neither Donatell, 42, nor Rossley, 53, has ever been an NFL coordinator wasn't a concern to Sherman.

Tom Rossley File

New title: Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator.

Tom Rossley
Age: 53

Hometown: Painesville, Ohio.

Education: Bachelor's degree, Cincinnati.

NFL coaching experience: Chiefs quarterbacks coach ('99); Bears tight ends coach ('98); Bears wide receivers coach ('97); Falcons quarterbacks coach ('90).

College coaching experience: Southern Methodist ('91-'96, head coach); SMU ('88-'89, offensive coordinator); Holy Cross ('86-'87, offensive coordinator); Rice ('78-'81, passing game coordinator); Cincinnati ('77, receivers); Rice ('76, offensive assistant); Arkansas ('72, graduate assistant).

Other pro coaching experience: Arena League's Denver Dynamite ('87, offensive specialist); USFL's San Antonio Gunslingers ('85, offensive coordinator); CFL's Montreal Concorde ('82-'84, running backs/wide receivers).

Playing experience: All-American wide receiver at Cincinnati ('66-'68).

Personal: Married, three children.

Much of Rossley's career has been spent coaching the run-and-shoot offense or variations of it. As head coach at Southern Methodist from 1991-'96 (15-48-3 record) Rossley usually employed four wide receivers and threw the ball all over the field.

In 1990 he made his NFL debut by coaching quarterbacks in the Atlanta Falcons' wide-open "Red Gun" offense.

Hired by Dave Wannstedt as a scout in 1997, Rossley filled in as the Chicago Bears' wide receiver coach that season when another coach became ill. He coached the Bears' tight ends in '98 before joining the Chiefs in '99.

"In Chicago and Kansas City, although we didn't really call it West Coast, the terminology and numbering system and what we were calling routes and run plays is basically the same thing," Rossley said. "I like the West Coast offense and am very familiar with it."

Rossley was offensive coordinator and Sherman was offensive line coach at Holy Cross in 1986-'87 when the Division I-AA Crusaders went 21-1.

"The fact that I have known Tom for approximately 15 years is an advantage to me," Sherman said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise and, more importantly, great creativity. It will be the same West Coast philosophy but there will be numerous other things we'll be doing this year."

Rossley was a standout wide receiver at the University of Cincinnati from 1966-'68.

"I know how aggressive he is," Rossley said of Brett Favre. "That's the way I like to play. I like to score every time I got it."

P@ck-
1. I like your use of color in your post. And that is saying a lot coming from a color blind guy.
2. I was just poking fun. Over the yrs I have been known to instigate trouble from time to time.
3. I like it when you pontificate (oops sorry) I mean exhort your point of view.
4. I didn't put Rossley's bio in just his stupid saying. After today I am deleting it. (I think Cheez was kidding too when he put in his bio.)
5. SMU sure stunk in the 90's didn't they?
6. I thought more people would get their hackles up on one side or the other of the Rossley issue.
7. OH NO! I GUESS THAT MEANS IM A TROLL!

I guess I deserve 2 minutes in the penalty box or better still a 15 yard :penflag: for that.

I am done w/ the signature. For any readers who missed it before I deleted it here is what it said:
"As we've said all along, if you pop a run or two, it's so much easier to stay with the run. That's what makes our offense go."
Tom Rossley
Now let the post fade away into oblivion.

That line is a total crock - go back and review the ending of the Carolina Panthers game!
