I think he would have been a decent pickup.

Ankle injury to Snee might return Seubert to Giants' lineup
Ankle injury to Snee might return Seubert to Giants' lineup

By TOM CANAVAN, AP Sports Writer
September 12, 2006

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- When Rich Seubert talked about having fun in recent years, it usually had to do with the practical jokes he pulled: the backup guard is one of the New York Giants' most notorious pranksters.

Seubert will likely get a chance to have another type of fun Sunday when the Giants (0-1) travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles (1-0). There is a good possibility he will start at right guard in place of Chris Snee, who hurt an ankle late in the first half of the 26-21 loss to Indianapolis on Sunday night.

While the ankle is not broken, coach Tom Coughlin said that Snee was not able to do much a day after the game.

That it's a game against Philadelphia brings things full circle.

Three years ago, Seubert was a rising star. The former free agent had fought his way onto the Giants' roster in 2001 and, by the following season, he started all 16 regular-season games and a playoff game at left guard.

But on Oct. 19, 2003, the Giants were at home against the Eagles. Late in the first quarter, the Eagles' N.D. Kalu stepped on the back of Seubert's leg and broke the fibula, tibia and ankle.

Seubert missed the rest of 2003 and all of 2004. It took him 19 months, a couple of surgeries and much rehabilitation just to return to practice in June 2005. He made the Giants' roster that season and appeared in four games, three on special teams. The only time he played at guard was on Dec. 17, when injuries forced David Diehl to move from left guard to right tackle.

Seubert got the start and the line cleared the way for Tiki Barber to rush for a team-record 220 yards.

Now he gets to start earlier after earning praise from Coughlin for his replacement work in the opener.

"I just want to play," the 27-year-old Seubert said. "The more you play, the better you get. We'll see. I felt good. I had fun. It's never fun sitting on the sidelines and not helping the team win. It's always fun to get back in there."

"Rich was one of the best offensive lineman in the game before his injury and I think he is starting to get back to that place," Barber said.

Seubert faces an interesting test against the Eagles.

"This is a defensive team," Seubert said. "Indy had a bunch of speed. We all know what Philly has with (Jeremiah) Trotter in the middle and the D-line and Dhani Jones playing linebacker. Every team is different. You just have to watch tape and find some good plays that will work."

The Giants had a lot of plays that worked against the Colts. They had 433 yards in total offense, including 186 yards rushing. The problem was penalties. Nine of the 10 called against New York were against the offense, including five false starts.

"We let one slip this week," Seubert said. "Now we just have to get ready to play Philadelphia."

Usually if you refer to someone as "this guy," he wouldn't make that much of a difference.

Don't agree.

Tiki Barber referred to him as "one of the best offensive lineman in the NFL".

Sorry, I think I'll his word over yours.

Yeah..so what?

Seubert is a good lineman and was available for a few weeks in August before the Giants re-signed him. What is your point?

(And before you say, If he was so good then why was he cut? The answer is, good people are cut all the time if a team wants to make room for someone else. Seubert. Hank Fraley from the Eagles. etc..etc..)

I would hope TT knows this.

It does when people make the argument that "no one is/or has been available" for TT to sign.

And also counts when the next o-lineman becomes available.

Signing someone takes more than just simply being available.

What does that mean?

You mean like TT getting off his *** and doing something for once?

The guy was cut by the Giants a few weeks ago. Did TT make a move for him? I think not.

How come other teams seem to be able to make trades and sign people, but the Packers seem to take eons to make a move or for anything to happen in the front office?

What does it mean? Gosh, the player has to want to sign with GB first of all. The player has to appeal to our scheme and staff.

Remember, Ted is not the only person who makes the decision. He simply makes the FINAL call on the decision.

He and McCarthy have both said ted will not force players on to mccarthy and mccarthy will not force ted to get someone if he is against it.

the staff and ted have to agree on said player.

It seems slow because you scour information on the Packers whereas you do not do the same for the other 31 NFL teams. It's all perception bro.

Be careful majikman, you get between some people and their heroes and they tend to get pretty testy. Especially when you ask them to produce facts to back up their assertations. :-?

C'mon Zero.

We all know that offensive line has been a position of need for the Packers for 2 years now.

Why the lack of urgency then? Many offensive lineman have been available in the past few months yet TT fails to move on anyone. It doesn't make sense.

And what makes even less sense is some peoples casual attitude about the whole thing like it's no big deal. Most teams do not operate this way.

It's bizarre.

It's all a big conspiracy to get rid of Favre, to run him out of town. No good receivers, no good O lineman... sounds like a big scandal to waste Favre's last good years.

No, I wouldn't say that.

I don't know why he's doing it this way exactly, but it is wasting the remaining years Favre has with the Pack.

Made a mistake by not re-signing Wahle that is for sure. I'm still not happy about that move, err lack of move. :)

Looks like quite a bit of offensive lineman came to GB though.

In the two drafts Ted has administrated...
  • C/G Junius Coston
    G Will Whitticker
    T/G Daryn Colledge
    G/C Jason Spitz
    T/G Tony Moll

Five picks out of 23.

I suppose thats not aggressive though. That's over 20% of the draft picks used on the OL and that doesnt even include all the free agents he brought in.

It should be noted the free agents for lack of a better term, sucked. lol

Zero are you using facts? You know we don't honor those on this site  only what people that have no business making any sort of decision in the NFL say is fact around here... it's all about the conspiracy... remember this isn't a business, we play favorites to keep the fans happy.

I always try to use facts!! I like being prepared so before I make a bold statement I tend to look into it first for supporting evidence :)
