Another short week, this time Thursday against the Lions. We had a cruise control game Sunday while they went into extra innings to eke out their win. Rest may help us.
Win or lose I intend on enjoying my turkey after the game. Back in 1962 I was so distraught and crying that I could not take a bite after getting pummeled by the Lions that day. My mother could not understand what was wrong with me. But she was never a Packer fan.

Big game. We just have to come out motivated and keep it up no matter what. Pressuring Goff could go a long way again. We need to move the chains. Let the d rest some. No run run pass all the time.

I, unlike man, haven't claimed Gary has been bad...he's merely been quiet in the sack category....this week Gary joins Parsons I predict get home at crucial times.

Gary has always shown up against the Lions.....against the Lions...Gary since becoming a starter:

2025 - Week 1 - 1 sack
2024 - Week 9 -1 Sack
2024 - Week 14 - 1 sack
2023 - Week 4 - no sacks but 4 pressures
2023 - Week 12 - 3 sacks
2022 - Week 9 - week he got hurt (still 3 pressures before injury)
2021 - Week 2 - no sacks but 5 pressures
2021 - week 18 - no sacks but 5 pressures
2020 - Week 2 - 2 sacks
2020 - Week 14 - 1 sack

2019 - rookie year didn't play a ton

What?

You really going to make a claim that MLF hasn't won a big game?

Just the last two full seasons and this one:

This game is essentially not any more or less pivotal than the opening game vs the Lions this year - other than the week it lies in.
Win or out of the playoff games in Week16 / Week17 and Week18 of the 2023 season to end 9-8
Dallas playoff game in 2023
Thanksgiving Game 2023
Thanksgiving Game 2024

I'll be honest I see this game playing out one of two ways:

Detroit BARELY gets by us...
GB wins by more than 14 points...maybe less if garbage time score happens...but we really run the game.

I just don't see us winning a close one in their house for some reason.

The Lions obviously do not want to be the team they were in the last 2 weeks, a stifled offense in Philly and a torched defense against the Giants. They know they lost the first game to us. They know it is a critical division game as well as a conference game. They know it is a short week. They know we are banged up. Expect the Lions to play with high intensity on every play unlike they did 2 years ago against us on Thanksgiving. The Packers, although beat up on the roster, must match that intensity to stay in this one. Recall in 2024 they not only beat us on the walkoff but it was the game Watson went down.

I think you got years mixed up. 2023 we won the Thanksgiving game against them 29-22 and last year we beat Dolphins on turkey day. Wait do you mean the December game against them and were just speaking in general when we went there?

Exactly. Those are little things that help even out any travel. We played an early game and our game was 1st to end on Sunday because we chewed clock up and there was never an opportunity for Kevin to call timeouts. Between that and using Willis on the final drive it was nearly like playing 3Qtrs for Love. Perfect setup possible on a short week. Plus a nice long rest for a nicked up Jacobs.

Also I’ll reemphasize that this young team has traveled well compared to our old regime under Rodgers. I truly believe that’s one of the few advantages of “young” they just kinda don’t miss a beat on the road. The Road game factor has been very indiscernible level.

IMO even with some Offensive struggles we’ve encountered, we’re poised to have a good game. Detroit is still very talented and well coached. So I expect this game to be very close.

In 2023 the Lions played poorly on Thanksgiving and I know they do not want a recurrence of that day. I did mean the 2024 December game which as it turned out was on a Thursday making it another short week.

We know Campbell will take the high risk, high reward option when the situation arises. If anything, they’ll be more aggressive against the Pack. They seem to rarely pay for that aggressiveness, but that could just be perception/jealousy.

I have Gibbs on my fantasy team and he’s been amazing - I’ll take the fantasy L gladly, if GB can keep him somewhat in check.

For the Packers, this game will hinge on their defense being able to stop Gibbs and Montgomery on the ground. However, they can't sell out to the run, because if they do, Goff will pick the secondary apart.

The Packer offense needs to get rolling early. Hopefully, Jacobs can play. If he can't, the workload will be on Wilson. I'd really like to see a repeat of what they did early against Vikings, quick offense, no huddle, grind it out drives.

Currently, the Packers are 9-12-1 against the Lions on Turkey Day. Let's get win #10 and make this and the following game against the Bears, statement games..."The Packers Own the NFC North!"

Packers and Lions both played Thursday Thanksgiving in 2024 followed up by another Thursday night game 7 days later. It wasn't a short week for either team.

And why is this topic a Sticky?

Campbell was asked about the Packers stopping the run and not being able to take the usual shots down the field after Game 1. He said our defense forces you to go underneath because it keeps everything in front. The run needs to be effective to open up the pass. Except for a few shots to LaPorta and some garbage time throws the Lions did not get much.

It was not a 4 day week for either team. But it was not the usual 10 day breather teams get after playing 2 games in 5 days. Some teams consider it an honor to play in either Detroit or Dallas every Thanksgiving. The Packers had to do it from 1951-1963 until Lombardi put a stop to it. Back then in the NFL there was no SNF, MNF, TNF, or a London getaway. Except for that Turkey Day game and a couple Saturday contests on the West Coast at the season's end pro football was only played on Sundays. From both a coach's and player's standpoint it was ideal for preparation both physically and mentally.

Even though Jacobs is active this week I believe he will be limited. I do not see 42 run plays in our offense this week. But we still need to move the chains. After this we have 10 days to heal for a cold weather game against the Bears.

Week 1 vs Detroit was a huge game - Packers win
Week 2 vs Washington was a big game - Packers win
Week 8 vs Pittsburgh was a big game - Packers win
Week 10 vs Philadelphia was a big game - Packers lose

3 of 4 in "big games" this season is pretty good. Where they have struggled is in the matchups versus lower tier opponents.

Mrs. El Guapo and I are spending Thanksgiving apart this year. One of my brothers is in town so we are all watching the Packers game and eating pizza. Mrs. El Guapo will have a traditional Thanksgiving with her side of the family, where no television is allowed to be on.

Everyone will be happy. :whistling:

The Lions will be without Penei Sewell. I wasn't expecting that. Parsons should have a feast!

LVN, Jayden Reed, Karl Brooks, and Savion Williams ruled out by the Packers. While not having Brooks hurts, I can look on the positive side and say that Matthew Golden will be available.

Not having Brooks along without Van Ness kind of neutralizes that. After winning the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes last week, the Lions have to use Gibbs to win the game. We cannot play this game as conservative as last week. Take FGs when you are in range but throw the ball and put up points. The Lions will not have all the 3 and outs like the Vikings. And when it is 3rd or 4th and 1 they are better at executing.

I'll be busy myself. I'll probably have about 14 people over for Thanksgiving. My older son, who's currently in USAF is getting married on Saturday.

He's up from Mississippi, where he's stationed and her folks are up from Alabama. My other son's in-laws are here from Quebec, so that whole drinking family will be here.

We'll all be at the TV for kickoff. My new daughter-in-law is a diehard Packers fan along with my kid. They'll actually be at Stadium View watching the game before coming over. I'll be tired, but it'll be fun.

If you read the article, it says Sewell is questionable while starting center Graham Glasgow is out along with starting safety Kirby Joseph. Both the Lions and Packers have a load of injuries so It probably won't be decisive on the game.
