I was hoping we would have drafted him late last year... so picking him up now would be a bonus... maybe... but we have heard of this guy so he might not be on GB radar...

I don't know, says here he's had hamstring problems all summer.

I am looking more long term than short.. as the 3rd TE... his playing time will be limited... let him develop his skills this year in a more traditional way and make a run and boosting our TE position late this year or next.

We have two capable TE... adding a developing player at #3 is ideal IMO.

Well Franks and Lee combined for 35 catches last year and dropped a lot of passes. Bubba did look better in preseason, but I would feel alot better if Ted would've brought in some REAL competition at TE. We need some help at TE, this season. If Bubba or Donald get injured, then we're screwed.

This was the guy everyone on chat was saying to draft on draft day2 this year.

From the 4th round onwards there were repeated calls for us to pick him....

And every chance we had and didn't pick him, he slipped further down the order.

Do we really need him?

In my terms capable = can play.. but in no means does it mean they are top notch talent in that position. I agree about better competition here and in the backfield.. however there is not much to be had in an immediate upgrade.. so why not take a kid that can develop.. or at least throw him on the practice squad and kick Harris to the curb.

Are you crazy he looked awesome...he was the pro-bowl Bubba with the catches and blocks he was making.

I didn't get to see much of the preseason. But I hope you're right. I know that catch he made against Jacksonville where he knocked over a few defenders was pretty impressive. And he did a good job of protecting the ball too.

From KFFL...

Cardinals | Team signs Patrick to practice squad
Tue, 4 Sep 2007 10:39:04 -0700

The Arizona Cardinals announced Tuesday, Sept. 4, that they have signed TE Ben Patrick to their practice squad.

So we could pluck him from their squad only if we want him on the 53 man roster... Oh Teddddyyyyy....LOL..

So ends that :(

I wanted the Packers to draft this guy. AS high as the 3rd round actually. I'm not sure if he's going to be a great TE any longer but I'd like to see the Pack make a move for him.

We can still get him. If the Packers put him on the active roster, he's ours.

Arizona cut him, and we passed on him in the draft for several rounds. I don't think he is in the Pack's plans.

Little of both. I'm at work so I went through it fast.

So that dose not end that.

LOL... figured you skimmed it... no disrespect intended...

I just don't see Ted committing to a locked roster spot for Patrick... I could be wrong but off waivers he could have cast him off quickly if need be.

If I am not mistake there is a provision that requires the Packers to carry a player they obtain via someone elses practice squad for a set time period or are subject to some type of penalty. I might be incorrect in that but I believe that is what I read once upon a time.

That is why I think it is unlikely..

It was bugging me so I researched it quick..Practice Squads

So if we pluck him off we owe him three weeks pay and has to be on our roster for 3 weeks.

Section 5. Active List: If a player on the Practice Squad of one club (Club A) signs an NFL Player Contract
with another club (Club B), (1) the player shall receive three weeks salary of his NFL Player Contract at the 53-
player Active/Inactive List minimum even if he is terminated by Club B prior to earning that amount, and (2)
Club B is required to count the player on its 53-player Active/Inactive List for three games (a bye week counts
as a game) even if he is terminated or assigned via waivers to another club or is signed as a free agent to another club’s 53-player roster or another club’s Practice Squad prior to that time.
If the player is terminated from Club
B’s 53-player roster and signed to Club B’s Practice Squad, he shall continue to count on the club’s 53-player
Active/Inactive List but shall not count against the eight-player Practice Squad limit until the three-game
requirement has been fulfilled. If a player is terminated prior to the completion of the three-game period and is
signed to Club B’s Practice Squad or is signed or assigned to another club’s 53-player roster or Practice Squad,
any salary (as that term is defined in Article XXIV, Section 1(c)) that he receives from any NFL club applicable
to the three-game period shall be an offset against the three weeks salary that he is entitled to receive from Club

I know Packwillbeback! I was getting SO excited watching Bubba this spring!!!! After a drop i was thinking "Oh no! Not THIS again!" But Favre went right back to him, and he has looked refreshed and back to his old playmaking ways! I think Bubba will be a HUGE part of our O this season!

I live in AZ and he was terrible in camp. He might be decent down the road, but he was dropping passes and blowing blocking assignments left-and-right. Clark Harris looks like the better prospect at this point.

Thanks for the "inside info" Arles! I really don't know much about this kid!

I don't think TE is high on TT's priority list.

Too bad. I can remember when the TE was an integral part of our team's offensive scheme, and success.
