Sadly, it looks like T-Murph's career is over. Too bad, he really looked like he was going to be a player. But, better to walk away than to be rolled off the field.

On another front, there is rumor we are working on a deal with Longwell, but are apparently also courting Adam Vinitieri should it not come to fruition.

Damn, these are quiet times.....cannot wait for the draft.

Where is the source about T-Murph's career being over? I haven't heard anything of the sort yet....

The Packers would be fools not to resign Rod Gardner now. The WR class is in the draft is pretty week and free agency doesn't excite me either. Ferguson may have just extended his stay in Green Bay.

I still blame Poop Davenport for his muffed kickoff. Murphy barely got the ball put away when he was measured for the spear! No penalty of course.

What a shame, the kid had a lot of promise!

Just saw the article on the web...perhaps over at packerchatters, a respectable site, albeit a far second to packerforum.

Short version.

Terrence Murphy - WR - Packers
Packers WR Terrence Murphy, a second-round pick in 2005, is not expected to receive medical clearance to ever play football again.
Murphy went on injured reserve last October after injuring his neck on Monday Night Football. Doctors discovered he had a narrow spinal canal. It's a big blow for Green Bay, who invested a high pick on him and were encouraged by his progress on the team. This makes Robert Ferguson's return more likely. Feb. 28 - 11:52 am et

Crap we don't even get a comp pick for him either :(

I had high hopes on Murphy, hopefully he lives a physically fine life even though he may never play ball again.

Actually, he has been cleared to play by the doctors, but at high risk. He was told to discuss it with his family.

Even if he were to decide to continue to play, there is some doubt whether the Packers would give him clearance to play -- as it would expose them to liability too.

This sounds like the same issue that afflicted Sterling Sharpe and Tim Lewis. I'm sure he'll reach the same conclusion. It is not worth spending the rest of your life in a wheelchair.

This was known before Christmas people.
Why do you think Gardner was picked up on waivers?
It is approximately a $575K cap hit in 06 for Murphy.

The Packers need to add WR's in Free Agency and the Draft.
They realy only have 2 and the weak link Ferguson.

Gardner was picked up to finish the season. He is a free agent. He wasn't picked up because of the career ending injury to Murph. He was picked up because of the season ending injury to Murph and others. This news was not known since before Christmas.

Did Thomas Davis even get fined for leading w/ his helmet. He should've been suspended because that was horrible. He was horizontal when he hit t-murp so you can't say he wasn't trying to hurt someone.

DePack,

The Milwaukee JournalSentinal had an article on Murphy's injury on 12/7/05 and 12/28/05 following the Packer's press release on Murphy 12/28/05.

The Press Gazette had an article on 12/21/05 following the update on Murphy's web site that date.

You know it is a very serious injury when a patient has seen 4 specialists for opinions. At least one of the specialists is giving bad news.

In the next 30 days Murphy, Dr. McKenzie, and Ted Thompson will sit down for the final decision. This is an injury that will not get better with time or "rehabilitation".
