DTs rarely have an impact in their first year. And even if he does, he's not going to play the other 10 positions in D, and he's not going to play offense. It's still the Lions... At least for this year...

I suggest supplementing that with a journalism or English degree. Without that (or some kind of writing experience), I'd say your chances aren't great. Sports journalism is journalism like any other. There's a lot more to do it than just knowing the rules and teams and such. You have to be a good reporter, be good with people and have genuine writing skill.
