Just amazing!
Their analysis was flawed. To just have a 305lb man standing still for the collision doesn't do justice to the fact that Vince Willforkanothersteakinmymouth was walking Brandon Moore backwards, so the collision was actually greater than their test indicated.
I'm a financial guy. What do I know about science?TheirMy analysis was flawed.
It's essentially saying that a car travelling 100mph that collides with a stationary car imparts the same impact/damage as two cars colliding head-on, both traveling 100mph?
Yup.
This was almost the exact test Mythbusters did. Old episode: Trying to see if you could flatten a compact car between two semis at highway speed, so roughly 60MPH. Host mentions "that's like a single truck at 120 MPH!" or something. Physicists everywhere scream.
Revisited Episode (to the best of my recollection): Two moving semis run at 60MPH vs. single 60MPH moving semi run. Carnage to the unfortunate car was near identical and about what you'd see if you drove past a car vs. semi wreck on the highway.
Trip to a rocket powered train track range (where the hell does California get all these cool toys!). Weld up a shell with a correct shape and mass of a semi. Load up with rockets to get 120MPH. Aim at car. Car looks like it was hit by a bomb.
The rocket powered test was keep--this was actually doubling the force looks like.
Okay, so obviously I haven't studied physics in about 10 years, and that was just an introductory course. However, wouldn't that mean that the force generated from Bonds hitting a 100 mph fastball is equal to Zito bunting a 100 mph fastball?
Just remember, the Bible says that the world will be inherited by the geeks. Or something like that...Wow, this board is awesome. This was fun. Thanks Guapo, Mrad, and Pfancan. Love the tangential nerdom.
