List your favorite/least favorite sports movies.
They can be others besides football.
    Optional: Your reasons.

    Baseball
    Faves:
    The Natural
    The Rookie

    Couldn't stand:
    Bull Durham
Susan Sarandon plays a team slut, Kevin Costner plays a dick and I didn't see what was funny or great about this one.

    Football
    Can dig:
    The Longest Yard
    The original with Burt Reynolds.

    Hated:
    The Longest Yard (Remake)
The remake is a stupid joke and doesn't have the raw grittiness of prison life that the orig. brings.
Plus a jewish Adam Sandler as a QB? Not saying that jews can't be the QB but he doesn't have the football look that Reynolds bought.

    Remember the Titans
They really take liberties with the "Based on true story" with this one. The only things true was that one of the players died in a car accident. The Titans had a winning season. They played football. That's about it.

    Bicycle Racing
    Faves:
    Breaking Away
Just an all around great movie with the humor, the teenage angst and the great bike race at the end.

    Hockey
    Meh:
    Slap Shot
After a while the repeated fights get old.
I'd rather watch some good hockey moves than knocking heads every 5 min.

Rudy is by far the greatest sports movie. The Replacements is by far my least favorite.

Though I am not a huge basketball fan I loved "White men can't jump" with Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes.

Rudy and Hoosiers are both really good.

Raging Bull is my favorite sports movie of all time. Sticking with the boxing theme....the Fighter was really really really good as well.

    Sorry, no. I hate boxing.

When I was a teen I was into the Rocky movies.
But since then I've realized how brutal and cruel boxing is.

    Yeah. I know.
Call me guilty of a double standard.

The only attempt to justify is that in boxing, they are actually trained to hurt each other and they really try to with each blow.
In football, sometimes it is intentional but it's not like they are always meaning to. Or else it isn't that obvious.

Field of Dreams and Major League are my favorites. I used to love Rudy, until I found out how fictional it really is.

Ever notice how Costner shows up in just about every genre there is to be in?
    A few different sports.
    Post apocalypse a couple times.
    Westerns
    Has he done Sci-fi yet?
    Etc.

If they make a sports movie about Curling, expect Costner.

The Last Boy Scout is a great movie. Nothing like running for a touchdown while shooting the defensive players that are trying to tackle you. Great flick.

How about Radio? I think Cuba Gooding jr. did a good job in that one. And Ed Harris as the coach.
