How many QBs can throw the ball THAT perfectly down the field? Second, the WR then has to come down with the ball and if the corner is playing the ball then chances are the corner will at least be able to get his arm between the receiver and the ball. At that point the corner can still cause an incompletion by jarring the ball loose. Give me a 5'10" corner with great ball skills over a 6'2" corner with poor instincts.
I've posted this elsewhere but there are FAR more good/great corners under six feet tall than there are over six feet tall. The whole height thing is just plain silly. Revis seems to do pretty well for himself. As do Haden, Brent Grimes, Tyran Mathieu, Vontae Davis, Jason McCourty, Captain Munnerlyn, Leodis McKelvin, Ladarius Webb. If you just think it through you'll realize that it's VERY difficult for a QB to take advantage of a WR's 4" height advantage if the corner can actually play the ball well (which Shields does). Think about it. If both guys are jumping for the ball at the right time then there's basically a 4" window that a 6'3" WR would have that a 5'11" corner could do nothing about (before the catch). Now Calvin Johnson will basically always win those, but whether the corner is 5'10" or 6'2" doesn't matter against that guy. Give me a 5'10" corner with great ball skills over a 6'2" corner with poor instincts.
