February 5, 2007 Written by Joe Arrigo - PackerChatters Staff With Brett Favre officially returning to the Packers, they have tentatively targeted Randy Moss, Drew Bennett, Clinton Portis and Willis McGahee as players they may try to land to help Favre on the offensive side of the ball. Look for Ted Thompson and the Packers to use this draft to upgrade the offensive side of the ball. The wide receiver position, tight end and running back position all will be upgraded according to my source. Randy Moss will be moved from Oakland according to my source, and the Packers seem like the likely detonation, but at what cost? Oakland would like a 2nd round pick, but with all of Moss' baggage Ted Thompson may push for a 3rd rounder and a player (Robert Ferguson or Ruvell Martin). Moss has told friends close to him that he would relish the opportunity to play for the Packers and he would do things that no other wide receiver has done in the NFL with #4 (Brett Favre) throwing him the ball. I have also been told that Donald Driver is "cool with the move" if Moss is brought in. The Packers would like to re-sign Ahman Green to a one or 2 year deal but the running back may be looking to get a big payday and teams that may have interest include the Jets, Giants, Raiders and Bills. Jeff Garcia was also waiting to see if Brett Favre decided to retire because the Packers were going to be one of his suitors if he (Favre) did. But since Favre came back, look for the Texans, Buccaneers, Chiefs and Minnesota to push HARD for him. February 6, 2007 Written by Joe Arrigo - PackerChatters Staff Good Tuesday all. I hope you have a good day and enjoy the rumors from the sideline. Look for the Packers to address Nick Barnett and Al Harris' contract situations this off season. The Packers coaching staff and front office really Barnett and think he is just "scratching the surface" and want to lock him up long term. If the Packers do trade for Randy Moss some names Packer fans may want to keep an eye on during the draft are Marshawn Lynch, Quentin Moses, Reggie Nelson and Jarvis Moss. I was told that the Packers had a long discussion during a personnel meeting (Ted Thompson with his scouts and coaches) about Randy Moss and whether or not he could fit in Green Bay and be the type of player coach Mike McCarthy envisions (a difference maker). Well, I was told that the answer was a resounding yes and the Packers will make a run at obtaining the talented yet troubled Wide Receiver, as long as the price tag is right. Look for the Packers to try and upgrade the Safety position via the draft, BUT if a player like Ken Hamlin is still on the market after a few weeks, then there might be some interest. Expect the Packers to be aggressive early in the free agent period. Names like Eric Steinbach, Justin Smith, Tim Rattay, Michael Turner, Drew Bennett and Cory Redding have came up. Look for the Packers to address the Tight End position early in the draft, possibly targeting Zach Miller (ASU) in round 2 or Joe Newton (Oregon St.) in round 4. February 7, 2007 Written by Joe Arrigo - PackerChatters Staff Lets go on the sidelines. Look for the Packers and MLB Nick Barnett to get an extension done later this off season. It will be later for a couple of reasons, the biggest is they both want to see what Lance Briggs gets so they can start from there. If the Packers do deal for Randy Moss both parties will want to re-work his current contract, possibly extend it and make it more friendly for both parties. If the Packers DONT deal for Moss, look for a RB (Lynch) in round 1 and a WR (Dwayne Bowe or Sidney Rice) in round 2. Another player they like is Tennessee WR Robert Meachem. If they trade down a few spots, look for him to be the pick and the RB position to be the pick in rounds 2 or 3 (Dwayne Wright). Justin Smith's name keeps coming up when I speak to my Packers sources). What would this mean for Cullen Jenkins (who is asking for a deal around $9 million)? I was told the Packers don't have any interest in Jeremy Stephens and are lukewarm on Daniel Graham. Itula Mili is a name that the Packers have some interest in though, since they can draft a TE and Mili could start until the rookie is ready. Mike Doss will be a free agent after he voids the 5th year of his contract. The Packers, Browns, Bengals, Dolphins, Raiders and Chiefs may have interest. I heard the Vikings may offer the #7 overall pick and a couple players for Minnesota native (and former ball boy) Larry Fitzgerald. Another name to watch is 49ers TE Eric Johnson. The Packers will talk to Ahman Green's agent in the next few weeks to see what he is asking to return foe a couple years. Warren Sapp has called Randy Moss to see if he can help change his mind about a trade and mend the WR's fractured relationship with the Raiders. If Trent Green doesn't restructure his deal, he could be cut form the Chiefs, who may be looking to go after Jeff Garcia or Byron Leftwhich. Some people I talked to think the Packers will let Ahman Green walk because they, the people I talked to, feel he is done and will not be the type of player he once was. If the Packers were to re-sign him, it would be for a 1 or 2 year deal. There are a few teams that seem to be interested in the Packers DE "KGB" including the Buccaneers, Raiders, Cardinals, Browns, Broncos, Texans, Redskins and Jags. Packers fans, just remember the name John Beck (QB, BYU) during the draft days). Deon Grant may be on the Packers short list, but they will not get into a bidding war over him. Sidney Rice's name is moving up draft boards, possibly as high as #16 to the Packers. February 20, 2007 Written by Joe Arrigo - PackerChatters Staff I have been told the Packers and Nick Barnett's people are getting a little closer to a deal, locking the MLB up for 5-6 years, I couldn't get my hands on any fiscal details. Look for the Packers to try and make a push for Daniel Graham. At first they were not to sure on whether or not to make a run at him, but it seems they have decided to do so since the Pats franchised Asante Samuel. It seems the Packers have an eye on a BIG OL that has ties to Thompson...sorry I cannot say the name today...I will bring it out later in the week. I was told as of today the top 4 WR's on the Packers board are (in no particular order) Ginn, Jarrett, Rice and Bowe. Three RB's to keep your eye on if your a Packers fan are Dwayne Wright, Brian Leonard and Tony Hunt. Look for the Packers to inquire about Deon Grant, but they won't get into a betiding war with other teams over him. The Packers are mulling whether or not to make a ruin at Cato June.
