Good stuff. The only ones that concern me are those first 3. I think we’ll see us put Love’s contract behind us with an extension in several weeks time.

I’d wait until regular season on Clark and Stokes before making any offers to get a better look at potential replacements.

I don’t see anyone past those 3 in 2024 that concern me a whole bunch. There’s some guys I might sign to smaller deals but none that will make or break us

I personally think the Stokes days in GB are done...if he doesn't show out we won't keep him around and if he does show out we won't be able to outbid other places.

I still will argue they should have done something similar to what they did with Love....instead of fifth year option broker a one year extension, slide half of the fifth year option into 2024 to make it a discount but put more money in Stokes' pocket and still leave the window open for a long term deal or walk away after 2024.

Kenny has confirmed a lot of talks and discussions happening right now for his extension. Many players hold off saying it or word it differently - but when asked if he wants to be here he absolutely confirmed he'd love to play out his career here.

Be interesting to see if we extend him and Love...just how it all is constructed.

Absolutely confirmed he'd love to play out his career here as long as they pay him what he wants. Otherwise he'll be just as happy to go somewhere else. Sorry, I have no idea what he wants but this is pretty much what they all say and when the two sides can't come to an agreement they all say the same thing. I wanted to stay but it just didn't work out. Well, that's BS because if you really wanted to stay you would have stayed.

Note this a personal observation and comment about athletes in general and in no way reflects what Kenny Clark has said or intends to do. I have no doubt that his first wish would be to finish his career in Green Bay. I mean unless your absolute life long dream is to play for a particular team other than your current one why wouldn't you want to stay with the team that drafted you, made you into a star and whose fans treat you like a hero.

Disagree personally.

Kenny didn't provide just the political response they all say, and body language is a big big piece of communication. Would Kenny go play elsewhere if they cannot get to an agreement? For sure, duh - but I personally took him to mean it far more with what he said specifically and how he said it than other times we've heard and seen it said here and elsewhere.

Its similar to Dillon. AJ Dillon has said often how much he LOVES it here and has zero desire to look or go elsewhere...would he for a year or two - yes, but I think his family is here for life. We saw this play out into an odd and rarely used contract structure for him. Dillon absolutely left money on the table elsewhere and stayed here....now did he leave a TON of money, depends on your term of ton, in NFL terms a couple million isn't is a lot but there is a seriously good chance he easily could have went elsewhere and got a three year contract with at least four million or so guaranteed.

When I was 8yrs old, I told my family that I was running away from home. All of my body language absolutely corroborated my words. I stormed out the door, went to the bottom of the street, and turned the corner. I stood there for over an hour, hiding behind some trees, waiting for someone to chase after me. They never did. I eventually walked home with my tail between my legs.

I too think that Kenny wants to stay but we all know that things can change in an instant at the pro level. They can say all that they want but it comes down to money and showing the love.

Love that story! LOL

Disagree on Kenny - there is a genuineness there not like in many others. Many say it for sure, but their is a tone or a choice of words quite different than Kenny.

Perhaps you missed the second paragraph of my post where I said my comments were not directed at anything Clark said or did directly but were aimed at athletes in general.

Good to hear that both Carrington Valentine and Brenton Cox are turning some heads.

I really had hoped to see Cox play last season, but maybe he will be ready to go in 2024?

Valentine looked like an upcoming player last year and I really think one of the reasons that Gute didn't go after a CB in FA or in the draft until his very last pick.

Good example with Dillon.
What I like there is IF Dillon bounces back some? I think that low priced deal gets him an extension for a year or two. He's a different type of RB just from a size and ability aspect. Hes almost s crossover FB-HBack type so he doesn’t really directly overlap Jacobs or Lloyd’s role. I could see us offering him a medium sized
1-2 year extension IF he regains 2022 form etc (even in smaller sample size). Now he may not make starter $$, but I think he’d sign another 1-2 yr deal similar to 2024 just to finish out here.. maybe only playing through 2025 depending. He comes across as a family guy and I think he wants some stability which I don’t fault him for that. We will know better if 2023 was an anomoly later this year. I think he just might bounce back into that 4+ per carry area, which is good for a short yardage guy. He’s a + in pass pro and a plus in the receiving game and lockerroom. He needs to get back into that 4+ carry area and 500+ yards/5 TD to make his contributions matter.

I have a very good feeling about this coming season. I think we look really good across the board. Of course injuries could take a toll. You just can't know about that. And I think just about all the NFL teams are smarter with team building these days and a lot of teams seem to have improved a lot. But I like our chances. We should be very tough this season.

I think I agree

For myself I will admit that each year I’m a little optimistic for the Pack. This year though? It’s different.

2024 has so many similarities to the 2009 season, starting with a young, 2nd year starter under Center that looks the part. Of course we now know that the 2009 team was very close to peaking partly due to the talent mix and experience levels and good, solid Coaching. The difference here is we are very young, particularly on Offense, but along with that very dynamic. For me, Much will be determined by how quickly Hafley adapts and to what degree he puts our personnel in positions or roles to succeed. He’s such an unknown for me.

Getting past Hafley though, I think we had an “A” grade draft in 2023 and those are few and far between. I still can’t believe we landed Edgerrin! I think he’s equivalent to Quay Walker level and possibly better long term. We have very close to that 2020 Tampa feel at ILB and we have very good depth there. I say that because Tyron there in the 3rd Round at ILB?
is normally like a 2nd Rounder at most positions (high floor guys)

We have Stokes back. I think he’s underestimated. IF he remains healthy he pushes Valentine down the depth chart. Plus Bullard is really a Safety/CB crossover and guy is a do it all DB. We really don’t have any weaknesses. We hit DL so hard last year with Wooden, Brooks and Hercules and we already had a good base with Preston, Clark, TJ, Wyatt and Rashan. I just have not seen such a broad but deep DL, LB, DB rooms since… 2009-2010. If we end up seeing a similar “A” grade draft on Defense? We really have Top 5 area D talent and I’m talking NFL Wide. It’s more about will our Coach be a good fit. We’ll trip into last years #10 area ranking without much help from Hafley. If he’s the real deal I see us Top 5 that’s my expectation.

A Top 5 Defense would give us that SF, KC or Ravens feel. With this Offense I think we’d quickly be the class of our Conference imo. If we hold opponents in that 15-20 points per game scoring? I think Jordan and our Run game can do serious damage. I also like Tyler at TE he was really poised to be that TE3 that moves up before injuring last preseason. Tyler is also our 2nd to 3rd best ST player from 2022, so we just got juiced at ST. Smart guy, you have to be to play QB and convert.

Two WR's added: Rory Starkey and Jalen Wayne.

Alex McGough cut with injury designation.

Wayne's name might sound familiar. His cousin is Reggie Wayne, who was a very good WR for the Colts.

Nice hands here by Jalen.

Sounds like the Packers also worked out former 5th round pick and Georgia QB Jake Fromm.

Hard to believe Jake Fromm is only 25yrs old. But he’ll turn 26 next week. I kinda remember when he was drafted and it just seemed like a long time ago. He was actually in the same draft Class as Jordan Love

Yeah, Gute should have drafted a WR instead of Love and then grabbed Jake Fromm with the 4th round pick that they traded to the Dolphins to move up to get Jordan. :roflmao:

You realize, of course, that there is an entire parallel universe out there somewhere in the multiverse in which this is exactly what happened.

It breaks my heart to think of all the tens of millions of cheeseheads who have to live their entire lives in that universe.

FTR as I said Kenny's statements were different and here we are now with an extension putting him here on the cusp of a lineman's career...likely need one more extension if he does in fact play out here but we shall see.

I predict we see one of the following happen before Love's contract announced...

Why is Royce Newman still here....now I'm not as anti-Newman as many and it isn't everyday you have a guy be serviceable as a rookie and now he is a reserve but still....and I get that there is next to no cost right now having him here...but that's $3 additional MILLION in savings. I'd rather we put Monk into the lineup and let him grow than Newman if the need would arise. Cut ties Gute...another 3 to eat some of Love's MASSIVE deal coming.

Convert to an extent Preston's deal. He's a proven veteran and is something we don't have many of...could free up anywhere from $3M-$8M depending how aggressive you wanted to get...again more money for eating a larger piece of the Love contract.

Totally agree with this, in the current situation.

While some believe this is a Super Bowl ready team, I think they are still a year or 2 away from being a top 4 team in the NFL. I just hope Gute and the Packers believe that too and treat the cap and their future in that way. So to prepare for 2025 and beyond, they need to do as you say, eat as much of the big contracts now and not be stuck with giant cap hits down the line. Cap hits like Rodgers and Bahk, that handcuffed the team when it came to going out spending more money on a big name free agent (or 2) to fill immediate needs.

This is a very young team that appears to be on the rise, if the Packers can head into 2025 and 2026 with a healthy cap and not too much backloaded cap dragging them down, I think they will be in position to start winning Super Bowls.

One thing I will guarantee happens if I were to go on a limb of absolutes is with us spending this big money on Kenny and future on Love - either Stokes OR Jaire will not be here in 2025.

I actually am probably in the odd minority that when I saw the Kenny news I didn't think of him, or Love or the young DL guys and what it may mean for them....I thought of Stokes. A guy playing for his future in a contract year with a history of injuries. Fact is we won't be able to pay him IF he plays like the starting CB he was prior to injury at this point UNLESS we likely part ways with Jaire...

I think we are going to see a very good Stokes and honestly given the contract structure and new defense I think we see Jaire play awesome too...if - IF GB makes it to the NFCCG or SB...it will be because our defense is as special as I think it could become.

The more I listen to reports coming out of GB, the more I believe this D will outperform 2023 pretty quickly.
Already Evan Williams looks the part as he stacked to good to excellent performances together. I think we could have as many as 3 or 4 Rookies Win starting Roles. So far it’s
Morgan, Cooper, Bullard and Evans that sound like they are adapting at a high rate.

Rashan Gary is just tearing it up and seems to have picked up right where he left off last years finish. He’s back 100%. Also Enagbare is already flying around making plays which is amazing.
I know it’s early and to temper expectations. I get that and it’s true because sometimes high praise leads to disappointment. However the feet on the ground are verbally displaying that this Defense is up and down the best Roster we’ve had since 2010. I think we will have at minimum a Rookie LB And Rookie Safety playing regular.

While I would love to see Williams play well enough to be a starter I don’t see it happening…as the team seems to think Nixon is worthy of the slot and not Bullard….Williams ain’t playing over Bullard IMO

Speaking of Gary, sounds like the FA signing of T Andre Dillard might have been a nothing burger. Gary is totally manhandling him.

"Andre Dillard has no shot at blocking Rashan Gary. Just a massive mismatch," writes Packer Report's Andy Herman.

"Three sacks in four reps for Rashan Gary. Just sprinted around Andre Dillard to reach Sean Clifford," writes Ryan Wood
