AR to the Niners for a first and second round pick after he renegotiates his contract to lower the cap hit. The only way he forces the issue is to threaten to retire and skip the next minicamp to show he's serious. Once Gute realizes that AR is serious he would be looking at only 2 options: 1. Renegotiate and Trade AR and get picks plus lessen the team's cap hell; or 2. let AR retire and get no picks but save cap space. Weighing the merits between cap space and high draft picks would determine which option is best. AR can force the issue only if he's serious about walking out and retiring. Bluffing wouldn't get him anywhere.

First of all it appears highly unlikely their will be any offseason workouts this year as well.

In addition the Packers can't save cap space by renegotiating Rodgers' deal and trading him afterwards except of him forgoing some of the money he's due next season.

why would GB push out more money for Rodgers to lower his cap hit for another team?

There is a ridiculous article from Monday stating that AR wants a new contract and associated talk about him wanting to be traded:
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/01/25/source-aaron-rodgers-wants-a-new-contract/

All of this is stupid. If Rodgers really wants out, good luck going to a contender. He would go to an AFC team that has enough money and cap space to afford it, which likely puts him on a bad team. If he just wants more money, IMO, he should have put an escalator clause in his contract to ensure that he remains the highest paid QB. Beyond that, Aaron is smart enough to realize that the man who just beat him (Brady) often kept his contract in the middle of the pack so that the team could afford the other players needed to win Super Bowl. Rodgers would be smart to stay with his current contract, push Gute to bring in another key free agent this offseason if possible, and try to win the Super Bowl next year in Los Angeles.

It's Florio. Saying Rodgers "deserves" it while also making him look a little selfish.

Reality? Rodgers was likely getting a "new" contract because they're going to move money around for cap purposes before his "league source" told him anything. GB needs cap space to do anything this year, Rodgers is the best place to start creating a bunch with. We all knew that.

Maybe new contract wants to free up cap space some how

Any movement out of GB by Rodgers will be made by Rodgers, I want him to give it one more try, I would rather see other personnel gone like a few coaches and some players

But did GB go after him or did the team feel his wasn’t worth it is what I’m trying to find out, he’s unpopular with me but he is tough

I guarantee you ever Free Agent is given their time in research and tons of calls are placed a year. No one outside the room with the phones would be able to tell you this.
