If I'm Gute (and I must admit I am rarely "Team Gute" rather than "Team Rodgers," but in this case...) I'm telling Rodgers that he has until the Super Bowl to make up his mind. On one hand there's realistically not a ton that we will be needing that decision for in the time between now and then. Knowing Rodgers' decision today vs a month for now probably doesn't change a lot for us. At the same time that gives Rodgers what, ~5 weeks after the end of the season to come up with a decision? In the same way I suspect there is not a lot that's going to change between now and then (or between the super bowl and start of the league year) that would change things for him. And I get that it's 60 million dollars which is a lot of money to make a decision on no matter how much you've made. So maybe it doesn't have to be "you have to decide if you're going to retire by Feb 12" but at the same time I don't think it would be unreasonable to say "Look, we're probably not gonna bring back (Cobb, Crosby, Tonyan, Lazard, whoever), it doesn't make sense for our team. If you are good with that and want to play here next season we will do everything we can to put a great team in place around you and will be perfectly happy to have you back. But if you don't want to be here without those guys, if you think that's going to make us too far away, then we'll be willing to help you find a new team". Anyways though gut feeling says Rodgers is already leaning one way in particular and it's probably just a matter of "confirming" that feeling.... I'm more or less echoing this feeling: Nothing to confirm that feeling (From myself or Ken) but just a hunch.
