Since those lazy ***** that run Madden are already speaking of making a new game, would you be OK with Rodgers on the cover?

It's obvious the Super Bowl winner is going to be on the cover. (Last year was Brees, year before last was Troy P vs Larry F)

I don't play Madden, but I've always felt they don't like us, ever since Favre left. They give Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Brady, Vick and so on all those high 99 ratings, but what about us? They didn't even want us to win the Super Bowl! Their prediction had Big Ben playing a perfect game (which is something we all knew would never happen).

I wish Tecmo Super Bowl would rise from the grave and make a game to beat Madden, or better yet someone figures a way to make a 32 team rom for me to make a 2011 season on.

This is a forum dedicated to people who create updated hacked roms of Tecmo Bowl featuring updated rosters and ratings that are generally based off of Madden's ratings.

They seem to release updates throughout the season to reflect injuries/roster changes, although the last one that I downloaded had Nance and Jackson as our running backs... no Starks...

either way, its better than nothing eh?

Rodgers is a 98 right now, with the next roster update coming out soon. Woodson's high 90's. Jennings is mid-90's. Tramon's in the 90's. Nick Collins is in the 90's. Ryan Grant is an 88. Finley's really good, though I don't remember his OVR right now.

And our team OVR is a 92, tied for the highest with Pitt (remember this was before the Super Bowl).

I'd say we get plenty of love.

I'd guess they'll offer it to Rodgers and he'll decline, because he's all business, and then they'll offer it to Clay and he'll accept.

knobbe.org is your best friend on the internet, no doubt.

I wish we would get a 2K game again someday. NFL 2k5 is arguably the best NFL game of all time and played to this day by many people.

I also can't give enough praise for Backbreaker for PS3 and 360. It uses the physics engine from Grand Theft Auto IV so every tackle is different. You can also download NFL teams with 2010 rosters and have a 32 team league.

While i agree the physics engine in Backbreaker was awesome, i found the controls and gameplay to be pretty horrible when compared to Madden/NCAA style gameplay.

IF they could somehow combine the two... deadly

Backbreaker is terrible. The physics are good, but the camera and the controls are clunky and awful. Kills the whole experience.

Not to mention the dumb decision to make the players look all futuristic.

I'll take Madden after it's latest patch + slider adjustments over BB any day.

Not all of them get injured, but most have a bad season that is never going to live up to the season before.

Drew Brees avioded injury by the skin of his teeth but was just a few picks short of leading the league in interceptions.

I think Barry Sanders retired when he was on the cover of one of them. Daunte Culpepper's career went down the drain after he was on the over.

I looked at the ratings at quarterbacks for the whole league and Aaron is the second highest quarterback! Him and Manning are both 98 but A-rod is above him.

Noooooooooooo. There better not be any Packers on the cover. But the Packers are going to be rated pretty high next year. They always inflate the ratings for the Super Bowl and BCS champions on Madden and NCAA. So it should be a great version of Madden.

I don't want Rodgers on the cover of madden because of the madden curse! lol Favre was on the cover of 09 and blew it with the jets.... Ploamalu and Fitzgerald were on the cover of 10 and Neither did well that season. (troy got hurt didn't he?).... Madden 11 was brees... and they got their butts handed to them by the 7-9 seahawks.... Rodgers being on the cover of 12 just doesn't bode well with our teams success lol

Wikipedia and the curse

Prior to 1999, every annual installment of the Madden NFL series primarily featured John Madden on its cover.[3][33] In 1999, Electronic Arts selected Garrison Hearst to appear on the PAL version's cover, and has since featured one of the league’s top players on every annual installment.[34] While appearing on the cover has become an honor akin to appearing on the Wheaties box,[3] much like the Sports Illustrated Cover Jinx certain players who appeared on Madden video game box art have experienced a decline in performance, usually due to an injury.

  • After Eddie George appeared on the 2001 cover, the Tennessee Titans lost in the 2001 playoffs. George also never averaged more than 3.3 yards per carry for the rest of his career.
  • Daunte Culpepper led the Minnesota Vikings to the playoffs in 2000, but after appearing on the Madden 2002 cover, he threw 23 interceptions as the Vikings slumped to a 5–11 record. He also broke the record for most fumbles in a single season. While his career looked to be back on track in 2004 with a career season, he blew out both knees in 2005 and 2006 and never resembled the player he was at the start of the decade.
  • Marshall Faulk appeared on the 2003 cover, and his career (and the success of the St. Louis Rams) severely declined afterwards. He did not register another 1,000 yard rushing season and his yards per carry average dropped from a consistent 5.4 over the previous three years to 4.5 in 2002 and 4.0 in 2003 and 2004. He started 21 out of a possible 32 games from 2002–2003 as knee injuries got the better of him. He underwent reconstructive knee surgery in 2005 and retired that same year.
  • After appearing on the cover of Madden NFL 2004, Michael Vick broke his leg in pre-season and missed the first 12 games, with the Atlanta Falcons going 5–11.
  • Ray Lewis, 2005 cover athlete and middle linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, had his season cut short in week 15 with a wrist injury. It was also Lewis' first season without an interception.
  • In 2006, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus in his right knee while jumping out of bounds in a game versus the Tennessee Titans, ending his season. McNabb also suffered a sports hernia in the first game of the season.
  • Running back Shaun Alexander, then the league’s reigning Most Valuable Player, was featured on the cover of Madden NFL 2007, and sustained a foot injury that caused him to miss six starts.[35] As a result, Alexander’s rushing statistics were substantially less than those from the previous season, and he never returned to true form.[35] Alexander himself has asked, “Do you want to be hurt and on the cover, or just hurt?"[36]
  • Madden NFL 2008's cover featured Vince Young, the starting quarterback of the Tennessee Titans. Young missed one game of the 2007 season due to a minor injury, but for the rest of the season was roughly even with his 2006 performance. When Young appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to officially announce that he would appear on the cover of Madden NFL 2008, he derided allegations of becoming the curse’s next victim, and stated, “I've done prayed about it and we're gonna go home and try to get to the playoffs and try to get to the Super Bowl. We'll see what happens."[37][38]
  • Brett Favre appeared on the cover of Madden NFL 2009 as a Green Bay Packer, under the impression that Favre was retired. However, shortly after the decision, Favre came back out of retirement and was traded to the New York Jets, which prompted EA to release a new cover online. Though he did not miss any games, he led the league in interceptions throwing 22. He later admitted to suffering a torn biceps injury, which Favre says may have affected his gameplay during the final five games of his first and only season with the New York Jets, who missed the playoffs at 9–7 after starting the season 8–3.[39] Favre threw 2 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in the last 5 games of the season.
  • On September 10, 2009, Larry Fitzgerald, wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals and strong believer in the curse,[3] and Strong Safety Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers, were both featured on the cover of Madden NFL 10. Polamalu sprained his MCL in the first half of the season opener and missed the next four games. After returning, Polamalu played in three more games before injuring his posterior cruciate ligament on November 14, 2009 against Cincinnati, and missed more games as a result. Fitzgerald, on the other hand, started all 16 regular season and both playoff games for the Cardinals. He did not attend the pro bowl due to a rib injury, leaving Steve Smith of the New York Giants, to take his spot in the 2010 Pro Bowl. He recorded 97 receptions (third-most of his NFL career), 1,092 yards (fourth-most), and a career-high 13 touchdowns.[40]
In 2007, GameSpot and CNBC reported that a large number of LaDainian Tomlinson's fans, who believed in the Madden Curse, were strongly opposed to EA Sports' initial decision to feature him on the 2008 cover, so much that a fan created SaveLTfromMadden.com to voice their disdain.[41][42][43] Tomlinson eventually declined the offer, but stated it was solely due to contract negotiations.[43]
When asked about the "Madden Curse", Chris Erb, the EA Sports director of marketing, commented, “I don't know that we believe in the curse. The players don't believe in the curse.”[36] Greg Pearson, a writer for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, commented that the string of injuries that Madden cover athletes experience can be attributed to the physical nature of football.[36]
Furthermore, to earn the honor of being put on the game cover, a player is usually coming off of a career year. Some regression the following year is to be expected, whether that player is featured on the cover or not, because players generally don't produce two career years in a row.
On December 2010, EA announced their plans on developing a movie based on the Curse, which will be a comedy, and not based off of fate-based horror movies like Final Destination.[44]

When Favre got on the cover in a Packers uniform, both he and the Packers had bad years in 2008, despite going separate ways. Last year they held a vote, with Drew Brees against Reggie Wayne and Jared Allen (???). So if there's a similar vote this year, we could all vote against the Packers representative so there's no curse.
