Through the first two games of the 2009 season, Salm's Lightning team has stormed out to a 2-0 record, handing Kimberly its first conference loss in nearly four years and halting the Papermakers' 29-game win streak. The 12-6 win over Kimberly has Appleton North in first place atop the Fox Valley Association Conference.

"This was the biggest game that we had circled on our schedule," Salm said. "It turned out to be a great high school football game and I had a lot of fun being a part of it."

Last Friday night's contest was just the second game of Salm's head-coaching career. Prior to his 2009 promotion, he served as an assistant on the Appleton North staff dating back to 1995, when he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

His assistant coaching staff includes Mike Baumann, Matt Berlowski, Bill B..
