With Sherman in charge the last few seasons, the Packers wasted picks to move up and select projects that ended up being busts (insert B.J. Sander joke here).

Thompson, like Wolf used to do with regularity, traded down each of the last two days to bankroll more picks and reel in a much larger pool of projects.

Whether or not any of the extra choices the Packers secured on trades with Carolina, Philadelphia and New England will pan out is yet to be determined, but if Thompson is anything like his mentor the odds are he

I'm probablya fool, but I'm really excited about this year. I'm not saying Super Bowl or anything, but I think we will surprise a few teams, positively.

we'll all be pleasently surprised. Defensively, we will look better mechanically, Raynoch Thompson was a great addition, everyone expects huge things out of Donnell Washington (the "wouldve been a first round pick in '05" thing comes up quite a bit)...hopefully we do a lot more tackling drills in camp, wouldnt hurt. Maybe Kampman's improvement will continue (but we need someone other than KGB to reach 5 sacks this time). Safety depth...Freeman and Collins start? Earl Little, Underwood, some depth.

Some of the late round rookies are promising. Poppinga brings speed. Montgomery brings a heck of a frame, if only he can add some weight. Kurt Campbell is big and fast. Mike Hawkins is interesting, only 20, only a year in college, I think its possible he'll reward us with our believing in him, appearently a lot of personal problems...the raw product is there, its our coaches' jobs to turn them into solid nfl players, and that is possible

Most importantly the defense will look like they know what they're doing. I'm confident Bates will blitz while also making sure we're solid against the pass, something Slowik didn't do. Too many times our CB's were hung out to dry and did the best they could. I expect a big year out of Ahmad Caroll, it's tough for a rookie CB, he was thrown into the fire early, struggled, you can call me ahmad caroll's biggest fan at this point.

Wahle and Rivera will be big losses but O'Dwyer and Klemm will replace adequately. Look for Sherman to implement more run packages (similar to Kevin Barry's u-71 package)...Will Whittiker was a supreme run blocker in college, could start out as an extra blocker in run situations. I think Favre will be out to prove some things this year after how we lost last year.

From what I've heard early on, they expect big things from Jenkins. You can bank on Washington being in the mix because Hunt is a slug and Grady will be hurt. Underwood is expected to start and will probably contribute before Collins. I've got a hunch Coston will be playing at least a couple games at LG this year if Beightol gets through to him.

C'mon Spaulding - let's be positive (cup is half full) about Grady Jackson.
Gravy got his oil-change done right after Season's end... So, usually that means the Player (hopefully) will be good to go for at least "one" year...

Just the same, so far that's the one position that TT hasn't planned for, as yet.
They better hope a viable backup suddenly becomes available! :-?

It seems TT has a plan and knows what he's doing. Sherman was more of a "knee jerk" re-action. Getting TT was huge in my estimation.

<<<Last year, Sherman parlayed 14 draft picks into only six players. >>>

This simply isn't true. Sherman wheeled and dealed to get extra picks and used those picks to get the players he wanted.

All of the Sander bashers are going to look pretty silly in 2005. The Packers adjusted his footwork to get the ball off more quickly. It takes time to make that adjustment and get your body to do what you're brain is telling you to do.

Wolf had lots of bad choices over the years, particularly 1st round picks. If any of you would compare a roster, any roster, to the drafts of that team, you'll be surprised how many of the picks that aren't even on the team.

Most of those wonderful picks by Wolf that were mentioned took time to develop. Sherman had three years as GM. You're passing judgement on Sherman before judgement is warranted.

Maybe in today's football, you need to split up the GM and the HC and maybe not. I think that Sherman was doing a fine job considering he inhereted a receiving corps, that was lousy or too young to play. Remember Schroeder and an aging Freeman. Remember Bradford who was picked up in the expansion draft by the Houstin.

Remember also that in the last few years he had been trying to rebuild a defense with a lousy secondary, one linebacker and a defensive line that is really offensive in it's play. All of the young players might make a difference, we'll see. I do have some doubt because this will be the third defensive coordinator and third defensive system in three years.

The only thing that I don't like about Sherman is his interviews. He talks too much. If I had one piece of advice for him, I'd tell him to SHUT UP!

Now please, stop the Sherman bashing.

I like the move...now Sherman can focus on the game plan 100%, something he hasn't been able to do in three years, one of the reasons i feel he makes some real bonehead coaching moves...

The Packers downfall is coaching. Whether its Sherman or his assistants, that is the downfall.

Case in point, when Moss did his impression of using a port a potty at LAMBEAU FIELD someone should have knocked him on his ***. To me that lays partially on the coachs and the definetely the players. A coach should tell his players this is YOUR turf. This is YOUR house. You don't let someone disrespect you like that. The players don't have that no non sense attitude because the coachs haven't instilled that into them.
Now the argument is, they showed 'restraint' and 'maturity' for not acting out. That's hogwash! What is the worst that could come from it? Other players now think they can walk all over LAMBEAU FIELD and wipe their *** on it. Oh yea so what a 15 yd penalty on the kickoff? BIG DEAL we don't have a good return game anyhow so what we get it at the 20yd line.

Where is a Ray Lewis or Jack Lambert on your team when you need one!!! A player who doesnt care what the coach says but does right by his team regardless.

Good point, I really hope you're right Javon. When Sherman came here I wanted very badly for him to be successful because he grew up a Packer fan. Considering he was handed a top level offense and a mediocre defense I don't feel he's done anything any adequate coach and/or GM wouldn't done. As I feel the Packers have become worse rather than better under his regime I've become more one of his detractors. If he can become a really good or great coach by being able to consentrate on that I would be very happy.

I don't know how any one person can think they can do both GM and HC. To me that is kind of being selfish because you have to devote soo much time for each roll. I mean seriously how can you eval players and contracts while trying to coach and keep all your players in line and what not.

Slick,

Gimme a break. Should we have added one or two 15 yard penalties and players thrown out of the game to an already impossible situation. We already were playing with Green, not up to speed, Davenport was out and we're were without Walker and Fergie.

I'm not sure any of the Packers saw the mosswipe. They were walking back to the sidelines with their back to it. Besides, a couple of offense lineman stopped mosswipe and and escorted him off the field.

Maybe, you're right. The Packers could have started a riot, get the fans involved, blood and guts everywhere, right there on TV, so everyone knows just what kind of fans there are in Green Bay. That way we could discourage any free agents to come to Green Bay.

Good to know my words can be taken overboard. Thanks, mad props!! However I do not see where I mentioned a riot or involving the fans? How bout you stick to what I say and have a great day?

edit, if they didn't see it that is one thing, but it was an example of how much of a lackluster pushover team we had last year. I guess its my fault using an example. that jus open the doors for someone to be well .. yea ... anyhow moving along :D

First, I don't think people were bashing Sander, but rather the way Sherman traded picks and used a 3rd round pick on a punter who took up a roster spot all season.

Secondly, Sander hasn't done squat in the NFL, yet. He could come with a tired leg from kicking all summer. Or, his leg could get tired as the NFL season progresses. Plus, doing it in NFLE, does not translate into surefire NFL talent. Not to mention he has serious compitition he will need to beat outright.

As for Sherman bashing, I feel he deserved some of it. He made much of his own mess. This year if he concentrates on coaching this team, there should be considerably less Sherman bashing going on......

ps I hope either BJ or BB turn out to be an exceptional punter for THE PACKERS.

Sander is the 2003 Ray Guy Award winner. He's left footed. He's good a placing kicks inside the twenty He kicks well in bad weather. The Packers did the worst thing you can do to a kicker and that's change his style of punting. The setback is only temporary.

This year he might have been taken in the second round.

I have to agree, if its not broke don't try to fix it. I think he should have been given the chance to prove his steps were wrong instead of having the coachs change it. But that is my uneducated opinion.

I don't think that changing it was wrong. We don't want any blocked punts. It just happens to be the worst thing you can do to a kicker.

Someone please tell me how I can increase the number of posts per page.

he's saying even though his technique needed to be changed, it takes a long time for a kicker to adjust to that.

so it needed to happen for the sake of his career in the NFL, but the process is very difficult for a kicker.

Umm, SHUUUURREE bob :)

I'm sticking to my guns. I think they should have seen how he faired in Pre S eason before changing his technique and wasting a 3rd pick on the bench for a year. Changing anyones technique before seeing it fail I think is wrong to do. Take Brett Favre, what do you would have happened if the Packers told him to change his when he came here? They let him do it his way and it worked. I know its not fair to compare the two, but it gives an example of what my point is.
