Do the Packers have enough draft picks? No Ted will do something he is comfortable doing, trade down. Let's look at the choices and assume Williams, Bush, Ferguson, Lienart, are gone. The best player on the board is Hawk and he fills a high need. However there are other good LB's in this draft and the Packers need more picks. So they trade down. Likely with AZ who has a high pick but after the great impact players are gone. Add the Cardinals second round pick. What is available at #10? probably the second best of everything except WR. Do you pick WR or trade down again? This is too early for the best receiver. Teams want the second best OT, DT, maybe RB or QB. Teams who will move are Denver at #15 or Dallas at #18. I think it is the Cowboys and the Packers get another second round pick. Who is available at #18? Chad Greenway 6' 2.5" 242 4.72 speed. Not as fast as Hawk but # 5 overall is too valuable for just one player. Starter as rookie. Taylor and Thomas battle for other spot. If not available take Carpenter. Pick # 37 5th in the 2nd round. Davin Joseph OG/OT Oklahoma 6' 2" 305 best OG in the draft. Taken a bit early but you don't want to let this guy get away. Immediate starter at OG and solid #3 OT Pick # 40 10th in the 2nd round. Dereck Hagan WR Arizona State 6' 2" 200. 4.4 speed. Big receiver with a lot of up side. Will work his way up the depth chart and will likely start in 2007. Pick # 48 18th in the 2nd round. Rod Wright DT Texas 6' 5" 303 5.06 speed. He will provide the inside push the Packers need. Very disruptive. May not be a goal line stand guy against the run right away but certainly in on pass downs. Nice addition to the rotation. Pick # 67 3rd in the 3rd round. Hank Baskett. WR New Mexico 6' 3" 225 4.5 speed. Big receiver that with Hagan will mean the departure of Walker soon and likely Ferguson before opening day 2007. One of the two receivers will be the new return man. Pick # 104 7th pick 4th round Dave Thomas TE Texas 6' 3" 245 4.65 speed. Solid #2 TE for some time. Better receiver than blocker he led Texas in receptions. Pick # 139 6th pick in 5th round Matt Bernstein FB Wisconsin 6' 2" 266 4.9 speed Heir apparent to Henderson. Big but may be too slow for the Pro game. If not Bernstein, best available FB. Beats out Leach. Pick # 165 32nd in 5th round Josh Huston PK Ohio State 6' 1" 190 4.97 speed The Packers need a kicker and Cundiff is not the answer. Could be a long term solution at kicker and is cheaper than Cundiff. Pick #253 45th pick of the 7th round. Paul Pingar QB Fresno State 6' 5" 232 5.2 speed. Not a runner and not a great arm but a WCO type QB. Has intelligence and some leadership. A QB project who may be on the practice squad. There is my mock draft if I was Ted. No CB but certainly a draft of high picks that improves the team. They could all make the team(except maybe the QB) especially if Walker is traded. Starting LB, OG, Kicker. Solid pass rush DT, #2TE, 2 big receivers, future FB. Possibly a #3 QB. Playoffs?
