Players asked about injuries, character By TOM SILVERSTEIN tsilverstein@journalsentinel.com Posted: April 14, 2007 Under general manager Ted Thompson, the Green Bay Packers have used their 30 allotted pre-draft visits to meet with players who are coming off injuries, have character issues or might not be drafted. Two of the better-known players who fall into that range are California running back Marshawn Lynch and Nevada-Las Vegas cornerback Eric Wright, both of whom are expected to be first-day picks. Lynch is expected to visit Green Bay this week and Wright visited last Tuesday and Wednesday, according to their agents. Lynch, considered the No. 2 running back in the draft, is a potential replacement for departed free agent Ahman Green. The Packers probably want to discuss some off-the-field incidents Lynch has been involved in, particularly in light of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's new tougher personal conduct policy. Lynch was shot at while sitting in a car and in January was accused of ****** assault by a high school girlfriend. Charges were never filed in either instance - the latter because of lack of evidence and inconsistencies in the woman's story - but Lynch has been forced to address the matters with teams and the media. Wright's stock is climbing fast after he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.36 seconds at the scouting combine, and he might be a first-round pick. He has both injury and character questions. The former USC transfer injured a knee last year. In addition, he was arrested in March 2005 by police investigating reports of an assault. The case was dropped due to insufficient evidence.
