Not that they needed to redeem themselves, but this game was about a dominating Packers defensive performance. Whatever was lacking a week ago in San Diego defensively was there Monday night at Lambeau. The Packers limited the Vikings 266 total yards on offense. They held Adrian Peterson to 51 yards on 14 carries. Vikings rookie quarterback Christian Ponder was 16 of 34 for 190 yards with an interception and was sacked three times. He was hit six times. The Vikings were tackled for a loss on five plays. “We owed it to our fans, our team and especially our offense, who’s been playing out of their minds this year," Charles Woodson said after the game. "We needed a game like that. But it’s still one game." The lone blemish was the Randall Cobb punt return fumble which set up the Vikings only score. Cobb is having an interesting rookie year, but his fumbles don't seem so bad when he can take it 55-yards or all the way for a touchdown on returns. “He has three fumbles in nine games and that’s not cutting it,” Mike McCarthy said But McCarthy said collectively it was the Packers best performance simply because of the margin of victory. Aaron Rodgers continues to build what should be considered an all-time great NFL season for a quarterback-he's a shoo in for the MVP award at this point. He completed 23 of 30 passes for 250 yards with 4 TDs. His passer rating was 140.3 He now has 28 TDs on the year with seven games left to go to break Tom Brady's single season NFL TD record of 50 set in 2007. Rodgers for his part said the Packers had too many negative yardage penalties and they needed to convert better on third down, where they went 7 out of 13. At this point in the season it's about staying focused and healthy while reaching the goal of retaining home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs. Up next are the 4-5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday afternoon at Lambeau.
