I don't think I'd like to see any "time splitting" at this point in the season either (i.e. play Love a quarter or something to "ease back in" or whatnot). If Love isn't totally healthy enough to play the full game, I'd hold him out still. And if it's really a 50-50 game-time decision and you're totally confident he'll be ready to go for the Vikings game either way...my thinking is that in that situation your worst case scenario now is going 1-1 with your backup. That's still a win for me I think. Now if it were late in the season in an important game or playoffs or something and Love says he can't go a full game but he will give us a half or a drive or whatever he can...then sure. At that point I think you try and get him out there. But week three in a non-conference matchup? Gonna play it safe there. I also think...I don't really have any way of knowing it, but the idea of having Love play in relief or if Willis struggles or something just feels riskier for a couple of reasons. Purely non-scientific, but even early in the season I think if Willis struggles and Love is put in he's going to feel like it's on him to save the day and perhaps take some risks that he shouldn't be taking just yet. And in the same way I'm sure the opponents on defense will be smelling blood in the water if they think he's less than 100% when he goes in. So, yeah, idk. That's just kind of spitballing but my gut says you only play him if you're confident he's healthy enough to play the full game with no issues. If you're coming into the game sunday and think Love's only got a half or 3/4s of a game in the tank right now, sit him the whole time.
