The Green Bay Packers announced Tuesday, Aug. 21, they have signed undrafted free-agent TE Erryn Cobb (Northwestern).

He is projected at either FB or TE... here is the Gil Brandt scouting report on him

Delivered one of his career's top plays in season-opener at Miami (Ohio) -- blocked a punt, recovered the ball and scored a TD to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead ... That play helped him earn Big Ten Co-Special Teams Player of the Week honors ... Came back the next week vs. New Hampshire and blocked a second punt in NU's second game ... Became first NU player in 39 years to block two punts in a single season ... Notched his first carry of the year, a 3-yard rush for a first down against Nevada ... Caught a 26-yard pass against Ohio State before leaving the game with an injured ankle ... Returned to play the next week in career finale vs. Illinois.

2005: Team's primary starting tight end ... Caught first two collegiate passes (for 29 yards) vs. Ohio (Sept. 3).

2004: Team's starting fullback when NU employed a second or blocking back ... First-year starter who was moved from linebacker to fullback in the previous spring.

2003: Backup linebacker who saw extensive action on special teams ... Notched a pair of tackles, including a solo hit in the Motor City Bowl vs. Bowling Green.

    2002: Redshirted.

High School: A first-team all-state, all-area and all-conference selection ... Earned all-state honors at defensive end ... West Suburban Silver Conference MVP ... Team MVP ... Registered 13 sacks, rushed for more than 700 yards and returned three kickoffs for touchdowns his senior season ... Helped lead team (5-5) to first-round of Class 8A state playoffs ... Also ran track ... Coached by Pete Ventrelli.

Sounds good, although at this stage he's a long, long, longshot to make the team. I wonder if he's any relation to Randall "Tex" Cobb.

He might end up on the practice squad if they see what they like, but don't keep him after final cuts.
