Brooks actually won the league's comeback player of the year award in 1997, catching 60 balls for 1,010 yards and seven touchdowns after tearing his ACL during the Packers Super Bowl season. He developed back problems afterwards though derailing his career.

Brooks was solid in 97 but he was a shadow of his former self. He had 1500yds in 95. Dude was on the verge of being a big star. After 97 he fell off the cliff really, and just like that it was over.

Brooks had more yards per catch in 1997 than he had in '95. He didn't get as many targets because Antonio Freeman emerged as the Packers top receiver though.

Still laugh at that commercial for nfl gameday when brooks is yelling at the videogame developers that "this game doesnt show my breakaway speed!"

Thanks for the memories though I question the validity of a couple of these "finds" like Rowser and Hillenmeyer.

I was talking to someone a couple days ago... Think if Sharpe hadn't gotten hurt and that 96 team had sharpe, Brooks and Freeman...Can you imagine?!?!
My recollection of the Packers pre- and post- Sterling's departure is that Favre and the Packers depended upon him exclusively because he was that good. Once he went down, a treasure trove of talented receivers emerged from Sharpe's shadow. I question whether guys like Brooks, Freeman, Terry Mickens, and others would have blossomed as much had Sharpe's career continued.

I felt the same way at the time. Mickens? I think loss of Sharpe forced Favre to be a better QB sooner than he may have been.

Imo, Favre became a great QB when he figured out where the blitz was coming from and threw into that vacated area.

Totally agree. When he lost his security blanket (Sharpe), he learned to read the field. I can still hear Madden talking about how Favre through to 9, 10, 11 guys in a game.
