For sure. I wouldn't be disapointed in this pick. I am still a little shocked we were ABLE to get him. I honestly was hoping for T Davis who was selected by ... Carolina? I'm not sure. Lets see who we get in the later rounds, like ya said.

I can't wait to fire up madden and create rodgers lol :D

I don't want to say it, but Favre will eventually.........retire. With this pick, Favre is able to teach Rodgers and maybe make him better than he is. But the Pack have to fix his release. It is too high. The Packers will also need to draft defense with the next 3 picks. :D

Mike Golic and John Clayton were saying there were no defensive players left available at 24 to help Favre and the Packers right away this year. If that's true and a defensive player would be sitting on the bench anyway because he wasn't good enough, they were saying it made sense to take the best player available who they thought was Rogers and get him ready to step in for Favre in the coming years.

Clayton also said a couple of defensive guys the packers might have been interested in at 24 might still be available to them in the 2nd round.

So maybe it worked out for the best. Nall isn't the answer in my opinion, and 6 of the 8 teams in the playoffs last year had QBs taken somewhere in the 1st 2 rounds, so at some point we needed to bite the bullet and groom a QB. So overall I think we were pretty fortunate to get what we did considering where we were drafting.

Before the draft I wanted the packers to draft the best player available no matter the position, and I didn't want them to reach for a need. So I can't complain drafting Rogers. I would have loved a great defensive impact player, but I would have felt bad if we would have reached for an unworthy defensive player we needed like we did with Jamal Reynolds and Antwuan Edwards.

don't believe the hype!

Aaron Rodgers will not fall that far. i'm accepting bets if anybody is interested.

damn!!

somebody should've taken me up on that.

i heard the pundits say it, but i really couldn't fathom a potential first pick in the draft sliding to #24. so i didn't even consider it...hahaha, i think its a great pick. i'm too cynical to start the heir apparent talk yet, but we might've gotten a great talent gift-wrapped and sent to Green Bay!

im pumped.

Aaron Rodgers

Wow glad my first post on this board could be about a good draft pick (for the other two...wow cant wait to type those picks).

I think he is a great steal at pick #24, Rodgers was the top QB in the draft until a last minute shakeup. He can learn under Favre, he's a smart QB, completes a lot of passes, so what if he holds the ball high when he drops back. It was a good pick, and the "successor to Favre" debate can finally go bye bye.

I couldn't be happier with this pick. I've thought for the past 8 or 9 months that Rodgers was the best QB in the draft, regardless of whether or not Leinart came out. For him to fall all the way to 24 is a dream. The fact is the Pack on paper does not look like a championship team this year. I'd love to gear up for one for shot at it with Favre, but I don't think it's in the stars. So atleast if Rodgers turns out to be a good pro ( I think he will), we don't have to go through a period like Dallas and Miami and San Fran are going through. This couldn't ahve worked out better.

Don't worry, he won't. Longwell wears #8.

I couldn't be happier with the pick. When I was watching the draft and Aaron had fallen to #24, Mel Kiper, Chris Berman, Torry Holt, and Chris Mortenson (I think) were talking about how they thought the Pack would draft him. As the commissioner stepped onto the podium with the Packers' pick, I was really worried that we would pass on Rodgers and reach for a second round defender. I was SOOOOO happy when he said we picked Rodgers. He seems to be extremely talented and also very humble, and I think he'll fit in really well here.

As it reached like pick #17 i was like "no someone draft rodgers, i dont want a qb"...but i continued to think about it and i really wanted him, and when the commish steped to the podium i was pretty pumped, glad we got rodgers

If he turns out to be good, we got a steal. If he doesn't, we didn't have to break the bank or give up a ton in draft picks for a QB like the Giants did with Eli Manning last year.

I have no idea if he'll be any good or not, but I don't think the Packers could have lucked out any better if they were ever going to take a shot at a QB in the draft. Having a highly rated QB fall in your lap sure beats having to trade up for one.

Excellent posts on drafting of Aaron Rodgers by all Posters. This could be one of the most important draft choices since the best draft in packer history. The draft of '58. Many Glory Years Packers were drafted that year. If Aaron Rodgers is as good as most think he is and he takes over for #4, the era of non losing Packer football will be uninterupted, since started in'93. The Packers would not suffer the pratfalls of the 49ers, the Cowboys, the Broncos, and the Dolphins who have yet to replace their lengendary Q.B.s. By the way Aaron Rodgers were be wearing number 12 on his Green/Gold uniform. I will end this posting with a quote form Chris Havel long time Green Bay Press-Gazette sports columnist in Sunday's Press-Gazette. Chris said of the drafting of Rodgers: "This is like Manna from heaven." To that I say Amen!!

They have jersey numbers by all the rookies on the packers.com roster, are they accurate?

If so, Nick Collins is wearing the #36 belonging to Leroy Butler, the anchor of a secondary on two super bowl teams, wow thats a shocker right there...

I was listening to a local Sports radio show down here in Arizona, and the radio host is blasting the Cardinals for not selecting Aaron Rodgers.

He said he wanted the Cardinals to take Byron Leftwich 2 years ago, Ben Roethlisberger last year, and that in 5 years all the Cardinal fans will be complaining why didn't the Cardinals take Rodgers after seeing him toss TD passes all over Lambeau Field. He said he's sick of these over the hill stop gap QBs for the Cardinals like Warner, Jeff Blake, Dave Kreig, Boomer Esiason, etc.....

He went on to complain that the Cardinals passed on another good QB and still haven't replaced Neil Lomax in the last 20 years.

I hope he's right. :D

Hey AZ - I heard that , too - they're just on the Commentator's bandwagon with repeat propaganda -- that was Mel Kiper saying that nonsense - Gawd, I wish he'd fall of the planet - talk about a guy who's "full of himself"....

and ESPN stretches the hype envelope yet again....

Those guys on that Radio station ever have an independent thought?

Kiper wasn't any where near being the top banana on this draft at all.
All of us could have done better had we made a listing...
Kiper also thought Williams going to Detroit was a HUGE mistake...

Personally, I think it was all meant to happen this way for a reason... Otherwise, it wouldn't have happened.
We got Aaron Rodgers, and the Cards didn't - oh well

yeah Kiper is gassed up bigtime...

he hated the Williams pick because he's never really been a backer of his, even though he toyed with CB's his entire stay there while breaking most of the recieving records in 2(?) years there.

he actually did "approve of" the Pack taking Rodgers though. to which i say...who actually listens to you anymore anyway?
