That’s why I bring up the Roy Williams comparison. Roy Williams is not good against the pass. In fact he’s very average but he’s amazing in the run support. Griffin is almost a copy of Williams in those regards. He’s not the prospect Williams was coming out but he does have a lot of similarities. I think the Packers are in position were they don’t need the run support but rather someone who can defend the deep ball.
Where did Texas pass defense rank in the country? Here is your top 50. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/stats/2006/divia/team/passing_defense_byPASSYDS_PER_GAME.html I think it was in the 80's. I‘m not putting it all on Griffin but he was a big reason why they struggled so much. Texas had a lot of guys who were out of position. Griffin being one of them. Maybe it was bad coaching but I wouldn‘t doubt Texas‘ coaching staff. Griffin is out of position a lot of the time. I've watched enough on him to come to the conclusion that he is a great run stopper but a below average (awful may of been extreme) pass defender. He has the potential to be a playmaker but he’ll need a lot of coaching to improve his ability to defend the pass. I think he’s a late 1st round pick because of his potential and he worked out well but the weak part of his game is playing the pass specifically the deep ball. That’s where I agree with Pyle because Nelson can definitely defend the deep ball.
