Watching the greatest athletes in the world reminds me why I love the NFL so much.
You can run a 4.3 40 and still be beat by an athlete with 4.5 speed because reaction speed is more important than inline speed in the NFL.
Having diverse skills athletically is better than having one specific skill. QBs in the NFL benefit from running ability, throwing ability, mental acuity and toughness. Nobody has ever performed a cannonball on Michael Phelps while he's being God-like.
Team games require a certain amount of personal presence... you have to get along with other players on your team. You can see leadership develop as part of the game and you can get a sense of camaraderie you don't see in individual sports.
Specialization in the game allows silver and bronze winners in the NFL to make gold medal impacts.
Last but not least...
Athleticism is great, but that combined with great intellegence and instincts is the hallmark of the NFL and that's why they have the Wonderlic.
I love me some team USA but the NFL is all world players.
