We went over this...if SF thought they could not afford him, they would look to trade him before they cut or released him. If they cut or released him there would be no compensation, just as the Packers owe nothing to the Bears for signing Peppers.

Now, what would that cost? Top drawer players who are FAs but are unaffordable to their current team are allowed to walk away all of the time. The most in compensation they can expect in those cases is a 3rd. round pick.

If Willis is found to be unaffordable, a 3rd. round pick in trade would be reasonable.

Your right that would be reasonable. If only thats the way it played out. If the 9ers are looking at cutting ties with Willis theres 2 avenues for them to do it, either by trade or cutting him, but in neither scenerio are the Packers the only team interested in him.

If they trade him I could see a 3rd rounder doing it. But thats only if we're the only team making the offer. We pick at the bottom of the round so if even one team ahead of us is also willing to trade a 3rd for Willis, which would be likely imo, then we'd probably have to up our offer to a 2nd or a 3 n 5th rounder. TTs NOT going to do that.

If he hits FA by way of being cut their WILL be multiple teams getting in a bidding war for him. TT doesnt get into bidding wars. Simple as that. Saying he signed Peppers doesnt say he go after Willis n pay him. There was no big competition for Peppers services. Willis will have multiple suitors.

I would LOVE Willis in a Packers uniform and hope im wrong. But its not happening
