I ran into boxer Brandon Figueroa yesterday. I took my wife to her eye doctor for a follow cataract surgery. He pulled into the parking lot in his Maserati along with his girlfriend. She had an appointment at the same eye clinic. So, he climbed in my car with me, and we talked for over an hour until his girlfriend got out of the clinic just ahead of my wife. He was really upset about how he got manhandled in his fight against Stephen Fulton back on February 1st. We talked about another fight with Fulton. He'd lost twice now to Fulton. Once by a majority decision and this last time by a unanimous decision. He knew he'd lost. It isn't sitting well with him and he plans on working his way back to force Fulton into a third fight. He still believes he can beat him. He just had to realize that Fulton is a better conditioned fighter than most and can keep up a solid barrage of punches for 12 rounds without weakening. He's working his tail off for a fight in July out in Vegas. He had taken time off before preparing for the Fulton fight and he felt it was a mistake. He felt he was rusty and quite honestly slow because of it. He was back in the gym just 5 days after the Fulton fight and is putting in even more time now than he did in the past. His fight against Joet Gonzalez in July is going to be the start of a string of fights leading back to championship fights. He plans on doing 3 to 4 a year for the next two years so he forces Fulton to take him on again. A really nice kid. We talked about how he's getting even more involved in youth activities around the city. He loves it.
