most overpaid player on the packers?

Should clay Matthews be in the conversation?

No.

IMO Morgan Burnett doesn't deserve his salary at all.

Burnett didn't perform up to his contract in 2013 but playing with the doctor and McMillian it was tough for him to play on a high level. He was far better last season and is deserving of the contract IMO.

Considering Raji played great sunday and is on a one year deal not paying a ton it's hard to call him overpaid

Raji had his first sack since 2011 but I wouldn't go as far as calling his performance great.

Sam Shields hasn´t lived up to the contract he signed last offseason. With him making an average of $9.75 million per season I think it´s fair to say he´s the most overpaid player on the team as of now.
I was going to say Sean Richardson but Shields is a better choice. Morgan Burnett had one sub par season after his big contract but returned to form last year. Shields isn't showing signs of the same. Hopefully that turns around, soon.

This is what McGinn had to say about Raji's performance:
B.J. Raji (43) was the best player (of the DL). Working against undersized but strong veteran C Will Montgomery, Raji detonated three or four of his explosive arm-over rushes that allowed him to win at times against Linsley in August. The Packers slipped an excessive amount of times, and the turf monster got Raji once after he trashed Montgomery and was careening toward a sack of Cutler. The staff also had to be encouraged seeing Raji still pursuing to the outside in the fourth quarter. Dropping 8 to 10 pounds from previous seasons should pay off.

The first number is the AV (approximate value) per profootballreference for each player on the roster in 2014. The second number the cap amount as of 9/16/15 per overthecap. To my mind, a guy is worth $500,000 (QB's more, probably $1M) for each AV point he has (e.g. Jordy Nelson is worth $9,000,000) based on last season's performance.

So Shields is worth only about $3,000,000 but is making $9,000,000. Matthews, for all that he does, does appear to be overpaid, and Julius Peppers is overpaid. The Packers have a lot of overpaid for the actual value, and the Packers are going to have to let a lot of current offensive talent go that are currently vastly underpaid and can't all get a golden contract. In short, the Packers are going to be a very different team in the fairly near future, and I have some trust in TT, but three years from now the Packers may not be as good. TT DOES have a long track record for drafting value into the league even from the disadvantageous position of consistently being in the late rounds. He's set himself up to needing some great drafts and the Packers are going to be really, really young to finish off Rodgers' career.

I don't think that's a good way to measure a player's worth.

The Packers will have to make some tough decisions over the next three years but as long as Rodgers is the QB the team will be a good one.

All teams have to make tough decisions, more so if they draft well and I submit TT has done an overall good job there. The Packers are consistently a very young team, and still competitive. Having ARod as QB makes up for a lot. Keep drafting talented young players who can contribute, and the Packers will remain competitve. That said, I didn't realize Shields was making $9 mil a year. That's a lot even when he's playing well. Oh well, the world's not always fair. I'm not too concerned about the Packers taking big steps backwards as long as they have Rodgers, TT, and MM. So, well said Captain.

Which is much better than being really old.

Edit: i don't actually believe we'll appreciably younger when Rodgers retires

Sean Richardson is pretty overpaid IMO. A backup safety who is a liability in coverage and whose best value comes as a special teams player, shouldn't be the 14th highest paid player on the team. But that's nitpicking; there's no one that really sticks out like a sore thumb, and that's a good thing.

It's always been that way. The older guys move on, at least some. Can't keep everyone.

That's probably the best point of all made on this thread. How much did the Saints pay for Jarius Byrd and what has he done? Not much. We get Clinton Dix for $1.8 mil. That's the TT way.

This year's team is the second youngest in the league.

It's probable the Packers won't be able to hold on to

The Saints are paying Byrd an average of $9 million a season. While he hasn't done anything to deserve that kind of money in New Orleans so far he got injured early last season to be fair. Clinton-Dix is still playing under his rookie contract so it would be better to compare Burnett's salary ($6.2 million annually) to Byrd's.

i would have to say Aaron Rodgers

i say this not because i think AR is crap at his job. more that ALL sportsmen(and women) are grossly overpaid for what they do. the money now spent in this kind of industry is shocking when you consider the money could be spent on more deserving aspects of life such as emergency services/military verterans etc....

It actually couldn't be spent in other areas. The TV contract revenues are what drive the salaries. I believe the CBA states that player salaries must be 49% of gross revenues.

You seriously didn't just write that that Aaron Rodgers is overpaid did you?

I get your point of all athletes are overpaid (in comparison to us non athletes), but that is a whole different discussion.

Well then feel free to include all movie stars also and pretty much everyone else in entertainment. The only way to create the utopia you wish for is to get every one of you buddies, go down to the ER and cheer your brains out and buy their autographs.

Either that or except the fact that entertainers in this world are the ones that the common people burn their cash on and thus line their wallets. It might not be right but it's how it is.... Your other option is very open to you
