Listen you Coked up Ford freak (I'm praying you aren't a RC Dodge man)... Seriously though, Several years ago I owned a house that I was renting to a friend. We had a lease but it was a rather informal agreement as he was also a roommate while I lived in the house. I moved and kept the house as a rental property. When I decided to sell the house I sent him a formal letter explaining the situation. He told a mutual friend that he was a bit offended by the formality. I did it to cover my *** and so he knew what was expected from him but he thought differently. I could see a similar situation happening here. Maybe Murphy thought the best way to handle it was to take a formal approach and McCarthy possibly saw this formal approach as being cold and impersonal. I saw nothing that would indicate M&M were not friends, maybe not drinking buddy friends but I think they would have gone to each others birthday parties. It has to be a tough decision, well not even a tough decision because as McCarthy said himself he could see the writing on the wall, so even though Murphy made the call telling a friend you are firing has to be tough. Do you rip the band aid off in one swift pull or do you do it slowly. Murphy chose the quick pull. I agree that Philbin wasn't going to get the job so it wasn't a case of giving the interim guy a chance to audition. Like I said in another post I don't see the advantage the Packers gained by firing him mid season. I know what they said they were trying to gain but I'm not convinced it helped. I also don't know what would have been gained by either side by prolonging it. IMO the best way would have been to tell Mike the night after the the game but hold off making the announcement until the next day. If I had been Murphy I also wouldn't have sent a lackey to tell McCarthy the boss wants to see you.
