Holy ****, what a collegiate staff that was:
It was at Pitt, as Alex Van Pelt’s quarterbacks coach on a staff that included Jon Gruden, Marvin Lewis, John Fox and Chris Petersen, that McCarthy’s career got the nudge it needed. Two years later, he was coaching for Schottenheimer, a Pitt alum, in Kansas City, where McCarthy was an offensive assistant who worked with Joe Montana.
“You look back on that stuff. I was so blessed. That was a helluva staff,” McCarthy said of his days at Pitt.

Nice find. Good article. I never realized Pitt had a staff like that. That's rubbin' elbows with some elite coaches. It looks like MM has gone from being amid good company to being a part of that good company. Good on ya Mike.

My observation about Mikes coaching this year is he got it figured out, in that he found a way to simplify things and hand the reigns over to key players in situations. He is a very smart man.
