Former Ohio State star Clarett arrested

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett was arrested early Wednesday morning after he led police on a high-speed chase in his sports utility vehicle.

According to Sgt. Michael Woods of the Columbus Police Department, Clarett made an illegal U-turn on a city street and failed to stop when officers attempted to pull him over.

Police then pursued Clarett onto Interstate 70, and he was finally stopped after driving over a spike strip that officers placed on the highway.

The incident ended after police subdued the former star with Mace. Officers tried to take Clarett into custody with taser but it was rendered ineffective because Clarett was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

The former Denver Broncos draft choice was in possession of four loaded guns -- three handguns and an assault rifle -- and an open bottle of vodka.

Clarett is currently in the Franklin County Jail and is expected to be charged with resisting arrest and with carrying concealed weapons, along with a number of lesser charges. He is expected to remain in custody until his arraignment, currently scheduled for Thursday morning.

The embattled Clarett is already awaiting trial on aggravated robbery charges for allegedly brandishing a gun and robbing two people of a cell phone in Columbus earlier this year.

As a freshman at Ohio State in 2002, Clarett ran for 1,237 yards and 16 touchdowns to lead the Buckeyes to the national championship. He was then suspended in 2003 and subsequently dropped out of school.

Clarett sued to be included in the 2004 NFL Draft but lost the legal battle. He was then selected in the third round of the 2005 draft by the Broncos before being cut in the preseason.

Man, his freshman year at Ohio State, he looked like he had such a promising future. Look what he's doing four years later, sad.

Sad is when a young person is afflicted with illness or injury that robs them of their dreams. This kid is a plain-old stupid turd. No reason to cry the usual bullshit either...kid comes from a solid middle class family. He is a devoted worshiper at the "Church of Narcissicus".

He also had this in his car: “A compact disc of children's songs recorded by Ohio prison inmates that the state distributed last month to prisoners and their families.â€

When I first read the title of this thread, I thought he was arrested for wearing a bullet-proof vest. I didn't know that was against the law.

EXACTLY! Thats what Clarett started doing right after his freshman year at Ohio State by filing that false police report. Not to mention I knew he didn't have a chance of making the Denver Broncos roster when they drafted him with the last pick on the first day of the 2005 draft.
