New Offensive player to be added?

I just read on another forum that George Koonce ended an interview he gave on leaving the Packers that the Pack isn't finished w/FA. He refused to name names but he DID say it was for the Offense. Of course, Larry Johnson's name will be brought up but I believe his wanting Tomlinson money rules him out. Michael Turner may be an option but would be a one year fix unless TT gives him a hefty contract up front. So I'm going to guess that we trade w/Oakland for their TE whose name (I believe) is Thornton. Don't quote me on the name because I might well be confusing him w/another guy. But I do recall the Packers were interested in this TE earlier this year. And TE is DEFINITELY an area of need and we have plenty of cap space to pay him. So that's my guess. I'll be interested in other's ideas.

Interesting tidbit.

I too think if it's someone, it'll be at the TE position. Every other position on O, we've got youngsters that have shown some production, or rookies that have expectations to contribute.

At TE, we are really thin when it comes to proven players that can still play, or youngsters expected to contribute something.

I wonder though, will Ted actually trade? I think him signing someone is a better bet than him trading, because I get the feeling that he values draft picks a great deal. Problem is, I don't know of any decent player in Free Agency that would be a meaningful addition to our roster.

But to be honest, I'm not going to get my hopes up. At this point in time, I've pretty much resigned myself to believing we won't get anyone else in FA this year.

Or next year. (I kid, I kid... I think. :-? )

Well, though it's true he probably had inside info, that doesn't mean for certain that anything will get done. They might be going after someone, but it might fall through.
If it happens, it happens. THEN i will get excited.

He was on 1250 am sports radio from Milwaukee for an interview..

He said before he left ( the Packers for the Marquette job) he did some checking and said he EXPECTS a BIG TIME OFFENSIVE player to come to Green Bay...

With around $10m under the Salary cap this year, anything is possible yet this year-- trade or Free Agent. According to few of these posters on packerforum, Packer GM Ted Thompson would never do anything like that. Would he?
Remember Thompson signed Free Agents- Charles Woodson in '06 and Ryan Pickett in '05.

I wouldn't bank on this happening. We have between 10-11 million in cap space and nearly half of that is going to be taken up by the rookies. So we have about 5 million remaining.
