it's hard for me to tell who is better but i wanna keep Cobb outta harms way. I never believed in keeping one of your keystones of your offense returning punts and kicks. It's too much risk for injury.

Which is why i pray we don't see Adrian Peterson returning kickoffs Sunday!!

I agree with BorderRivals on this one, you look at the stats and think he can't do any better, I watched the games this year and thought to myself "wow, cobb could be an even bigger part" - I think that's what is fun to think about. How much better and more of an integral part of the offense he can be.

I never said he couldn't do better. My point was that Cobb is already playing a very substantial role, enough so that if Ross can take over the return duties full time, then that should start NOW.

What makes you sure not returning kicks will keep him away?

Brooks was a k/r but didnt he have season-ending knee injury by being a wr?

I agree that Cobb should not return punts and kicks with Ross doing what he is doing. I agree that the risk to reward ratio is skewed in favor of a negative outcome if we leave Cobb there. Also, with Jordy reinjuring that hammy/knee of his so often and DD not getting played the way he should, Cobb NEEDS to stay as healthy as possible!

Ross has, so far, looked as good or better than Cobb has returning punts and kicks. And Cobb is very valuable as a WR, especially with Nelson gimpy in the knee, hamstring, ankle.

Ross has been very dangerous.

The thing is, we want to see him returning a lot of PUNTS, not kicks. And especially in the first half.
I'd like to see him return 2 or 3 punts in the 1st quarter, and 2nd quarter. If so, by then, the Packers might be up by 28.

Could Ross be this year's version of Desmond Howard?
If my memory from the past half hour is correct:

I remember a thread by somebody on here a few weeks ago critising Cobbs returning stats, even though he had been a reciever, and seemed to me second tight end, fullback, second quarterback, and Gatorade topper upper. I remember thinking "Okay, keep your opinion to yourself, I don`t know enough about the game", but we cannot seriously put Cobb in danger of a game ending injury returning kicks can we ??????

Ross didn`t set the league alight, but he did a more than capable job when he DID return the ball. For my two cents worth, I say keep Ross as the returner...........(Can Cobb kick field goals ?????)

Yep, but does MM see it that way? He's already stated that if cobb is healthy he won't take him off returns which i think is plain foolish at this point because Ross is obviously more than capable of handling the duties.
McCarthy said he didn't want any change at the end of the season especially when the special teams has been the most reliable for us (Besides field goals I guess he means)... I believe we will see that change this next season.

After watching the return game yesterday - mostly punts - I'm more convinced that Ross might be better off returning punts. Cobb is a lateral guy that keeps looking for the hole. Ross, from what I remember, was more north-south and strong enough to break the tackles. I still have my concerns about ball security. But, Ross was a return specialist at Cal, so this isn't foreign territory for him. And we are playing in SF where it will be warmer - and thus easier to field punts. So, I think I'm getting on board with putting Ross in at punt returner.

Cobb is doing nothing special on returns these days, so why have him doing them when a decent replacement is there? It is basic mathematics - injury likelihood is directly proportional to playing time.
