The Kicking\Punting jobs to be COMPETED for, and NOBODY has the jobs yet(which I've said, they've said, then I said it again cuz people didn't listen, and now they are saying it again. Listen up this time..)

"There's been no impressions made," Stock said at the last camp. "It's going to be a long, ongoing process. This is not going to be tomorrow or the day after; we're going to go through this thing throughout the OTAs, and when we come back for camp as well, so it's an ongoing competition. There's nobody in front, nobody behind. They're competing pretty well, pretty equal right now.

"These guys are going to tell us who is going to be the guy. Somebody will emerge, and if takes through the pre-season of all the games we're going to be involved with, then so be it. If one of these two guys is not the guy, we'll find somebody else. We'll have a guy."

I'm worried about the field goal kicker. We HAVE to have someone that can kick in GB's nasty winter weather. If we lose a game because of this situation, it will be tough to swallow. Of course it wasn't great last year anyway.

Yeah this might be my biggest concern heading into the Training camp. Sander has been a huge bust for us so far and Cundiff has a bad resume himself.

As I have speculated before, this article seems to confirm that we will likely see other legs brought in before or during training camp. It is still a worry just because at one position we are not dealing with a known GB commodity, and at the other the commodity has thus far proven to be fairly worthless.

there's no need to speculate(although you woulda been correct), they said more legs WILL be brought in to compete(some are already there).

here is my speculation prediction:

There will be some no-name guys brought in to compete, and packers fans here will get all upset since they never heard of any of them(which is the point) and one will probably take a kicking job(punter or kicker).

I would be surprised if we went into week 1 with Cundiff at KICKER, and Sander at PUNTER.

I'll bet 1 will be the starter, my prognosticating skills are not advanced enough to tell at this point in time which it will be, but if I were to venture a guess I would say Cundiff, with Sander out.

Sander has been given the benefit of the doubt, given a chance, and now is on strike three and behind in the count.

I have heard nothing on Raynor's ability. He was on the active roster almost all last year with the Colts(2nd Kicker-Kickoffs).
I wish him well and may the best PK win the job.

We might be in a bit of trouble at P:

Jon Ryan, who spent his first two years in professional football with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, appears to have taken a clear lead over B.J. Sander in the battle to become the Green Bay Packers' punter. Not only did Ryan punt first and receive more opportunites on the first day of the Packers' organized team activities, he outpunted Sander by a landslide.

In team punting drills, Ryan averaged 43.9 yards on nine punts. Ryan shanked one -- a 30-yarder -- and didn't always get the best of hang time, but he had three punts of more than 50 yards. Meanwhile, Sander, the Packers' third-round draft pick in 2004, had a disastrous day. He averaged 31.3 yards on eight punts. His longest punt traveled only 37 yards and he hit three that traveled only 28 yards.

Earlier, the two punted with just a snapper and return men. During that session, Ryan averaged 38.2 yards on 13 punts. Sander averaged 31 yards on eight punts. In that session, Ryan had punts of 29, 30 and 29 yards; and Sander had punts of 28, 23, 17 and 25 yards.

The two punted into a stiff breeze that sometimes was coming directly into their faces, and at other times from both the northwest and northeast based on the movement of the American flag that towers above the Veterans' Memorial across the street from Clarke Hinkle Practice Field.

Ryan, 24, set the CFL single-season record last season with a 50.6 average. As a rookie the previous season, he averaged 43.2 yards.

I held out hope for Sander, but looks like it wasn't meant to be. I am SHOCKED that he had such bad numbers, I'd expect him to improve and be more relaxed after having a season under his belt where he actually got to play. Instead he put up numbers like this... :(

Ryan is too inconcistent for my taste. He had three 50 yarders, one 30 yarder that was shanked, but if you take into account these outliers, you don't get that big of an average, somewhere around 40 yards of punt with not enough hang time. That is an issue, as our ST need time to get down the field.

I take it from the numbers that they punted into a harsh breeze, but that is no excuse. I think Ryan has already made this his job to loose, but I get an uneasy feeling with Ryan's action, it takes him a tad too long to get the ball to the foot. And I just have a nervous feeling about his low hang times. After last couple of seasons, I am a little worried about our P position, and this doesn't help my worries. But I hope the coaching staff can work with Ryan to get his stuff straight and ready to go for NFL level competition.

On another related note, does anyone else think it might be a good idea to get the guy who came in last season to help Sander with his punting? He seemed to help Sander last year, so why not try it with Ryan? I was sort of hoping they would hire the guy as a P/K specialist, his resume is quite good! But I wonder if the Packers coaching staff has given any thought to bringing that guy back for at least one more year?...

Yeah I agree Trom, he needs time to work it out.

Maybe I am being a little unfair, but the CFL is a bit different as it has a little longer field, and Ryan could get away with taking a little lnger to punt the ball. He was in the CFL for two years, and I just fear a couple of months might not be enough time for him to get used to his action, and have it down good enough that he can pull it off when it counts, in a game situation when there are players from the other team coming after him. Maybe I am being a little too worried, but after the last couple of years can you blame me? :-?

it sounds like the worst case scenario is our punter is NOT BJ Sander. I think thats a pretty solid start.

Trom, I think the worst case scenerio would be that Sander is our punter. And based on the above info, that is not something that builds confidence. I just hope that the Coaces can get Ryan or BJ or whoever wins ready to punt at Lambeau, especially in the cold weather.

i'll bet money Sander is not our starting punter (unless ryan gets hurt or something).

PM me if interested.
