One of the crew of the famous "Memphis Belle" flying fortress was from Green Bay Wisconsin. Well I found it interesting anyway.

OMG, that line about Liberace had me fall out of my chair laughing.

Hey Bill, being a Brit, are you a Beatles or Stones guy? Much rests on your answer? (Stones guy here, for what that’s worth.......)

Sadly Joe, by law I cannot answer that question as there are two members on here who have put out a contract on me because I don`t like Paul McCartney. Does that tell you anything ?

You know I was just checking out some of the other threads and things in the website and came across this gem. I didn't know that Liberace was such a Packers fan, but the name and the lifestyle. It all makes sense now it doesn't it.

Boy do I miss Buggy Bill.
I liked him. He always had a good reply when it came to making people laugh. That's what life's all about.

He still owes me some pictures from the cemeteries in France and Belgium, associated with D-Day. The last time I messaged with him he was going there and was going to send me a few.

I'd liked to have shared pints with him.

Lots of documentaries on TV yesterday and today (obviously) about D-Day. A few weeks ago my wife found me watching one of the episodes of Band of Brothers and finally said "I think we should watch the whole series together." It's about time. I didn't realize it until last year but the same folks that made that series also did one called The Pacific and one about the Bloody 100th bomber wing called Masters Of The Air. Both were interesting to watch.

All of them were informational. I've found that over the years you can find a lot of war stories that are based on real events of WWII. There are even more made in the UK, and a lot of them show the US involvement along with their own.

My Wife and I were watching an old movie, The Bridge at Remagan, and she thought she'd seen the movie before, because some of what was happening, she seemed to remember. Eventually she figured it out. It was the only story her father told her about his involvement in WWII. He was one of those soldiers who was involved in that action. It sent chills down her spine realizing that in a way, the story was talking about her dad. I think it gave her a new respect for those that serve.

I love stuff like that. I’m mostly War History and Civil War is my favorite. My Dads Dad fought in WWI and WWII. He was 16 when he joined WWI Yes you heard me correctly. He passed in 1988. He smoked Dutch Masters and had Cigar boxes filled with medals and rare coins from various places he has been. My best memory was a famous 1960’s print in their living room of Jesus on Mount Olives looking down over Jerusalem. I found that same print and framed it it’s above my mantle. I guess sentimental and appreciative of those who’ve come before us victoriously.

Great memories. My Dad (Navy) and Mom (Coast Guard) both served during WWII. They met in Philly when they both had stops there. Some wonderful stories, some quite heartbreaking. That was, indeed, the Greatest Generation.

Actually, I'm one of those Vietnam vets and I remember it well. But, it isn't the generation that spit on us that's in leadership and quite honestly needs replacing. You see the spitters and those of us who served are the same generation.

I like to read up on War History, also. My grandfather fought in WWII, in the Philippines, and I just went to a funeral today, for a guy who fought in WWII, he was 98 yrs old.

My best friend is a historian of all American Wars, and has visited over 800 sites across the US and Europe. When we went to Detroit a couple weekends ago to watch the Tigers, we stayed in Monroe, MI and visited a war of 1812 battlefield site. Monroe is also the hometown of General Custer.
