In my experience, when someone tells me another person was choking them, I look for bruising on the neck and get the person to a hospital to get them to determine if there is any trauma on the neck. The neck is a sensitive area and easily bruised and if non bruises, swelling, or other sign of trauma exists, it's pretty difficult making a case that someone tried to choke them AKA/strangle them. It becomes he says/she says.At the misdemeanor level, it could be verbal. Just saying, "If you don't shut up I'm going to strangle you!" could end up as being considered verbal assault with the intent to do bodily harm but let's face it, if that became reason for pressing charges, half of our population would be in jail or facing charges on a regular basis, even when we have some guy on the road cut us off, and we say, "I'd like to punch him in the nose." But, like so many of us are indicating, as a person in the spotlight, you need to avoid any potential situation that could jeopardize your image because somewhere out there are several people who would do anything to gain notoriety and don't care what they do to others to get it. Often it includes getting money from them in a mild form of extortion.</blockquote>
