From KFFL

Raiders | Willing to let Porter walk
Tue, 1 Aug 2006 19:47:14 -0700

Steve Corkran, of the Contra Costa Times, reports Oakland Raiders managing general partner Al Davis said WR Jerry Porter has "lost his way" and is free to leave the team. He has four years remaining on a five-year deal, but Davis said that is not a problem as long as Porter pays back the $4 million signing bonus the team gave him for this season and his agent, Joel Segal, is able to find a trading partner willing to part with suitable compensation. The team said no other teams have contacted them about Porter.

If we still want him we might be able to get him for cheaper than what the raiders initially wanted because there is no way he's gonna be back in a raider uniform and teams know that.

Crap! We lost our biggest trading chip, Roman. God how stupid are we!!

Seriously though, I'd like to see us make a play for him. Maybe a 3rd rounder with a not a stud player. Porter could help us but isn't worth breaking the bank for.

I don't know, this guy sounds like trouble to me. The Raiders have a history of dealing with jerk football players and if they can't deal with this guy, why would we want him. I know of his talent and I think he could be a good addtition from a talent viewpoint, but I see red flags all over the place on this guy. I can't imagine him paying back $4 million on signing bonus either. We're also not a team rich in talent and every draft choice is important right now. I wouldn't make the trade.

Yeah......it is kind of scary. If he can't make it with the Raiders, he MUST be trouble.
Now, the question also is......would he pay back the 4 mill? I doubt it.

Arrington did something equal to that to get out of Washington. One never knows :)

Woodson'll vouch for him.
Na, no way, no Porters, no T.Os, no Moss (paraphrasing Roberto Duran). If the Prince of Darkness says the guy's "lost his way", that's - pretty bad.

I wouldn't want to play for the Raiders with the way they screw things up. They turned Randy Moss into an average receiver and now Aaron Brooks is the answer? Make an offer and see what happens, I like his ability and we certainly need help although mostly a true deep threat.

TT won't give up a draft pick. He values them too much and I don't see anyone on our roster that the Raiders might want (that we'd also be willing to give up) in exchange for Porter.

Actually I was thinking maybe TT might be willing to part with Coston, but I doubt the Raiders would want him...

Now THAT sounds pretty realistic. With Fergy in the deal, it could be a mid to low round pick. The more I read about Porter, though, the more I don't like his attitude. So there would definitely be some risk involved.

Ashley Lu-Lu is out on the market, too, and TT hasn't been to inclined to sniff his way.

Porter wants to be the stud. He's tired of sharing the stage with Mandy Ross(the female alter ego of the former Viking). '

One place I think he could end up is Philadelphia who has a chonic(maybe bad choice of words) need at wide receiver.

Don't look for Ted to make a move. If the Packers were/are on the cusp of the Super Bowl, I think he would try it, ala Andre Rison. But a year or so away from the playoffs with a whiner on board might be trouble.

Don't think Philly takes any of them right now.

I think A. Carroll would be a good offer, Raiders are trying to upgrade their defense and he is a guy with potential which is the type the Raiders like.

I don't like the Carroll for Porter deal. First of all, the Raiders wouldn't go for that IMO and secondly, Carroll is our 3rd best defensive back right now. He'll be as important if not more than C-Wood and Harris because of all the action he'll see in the nickel.

I'm telling ya KGB, KGB straight up; and they would do it. We would rid ourselves of the one trick pony pass rush specialist. We have too many DL right now anyways, and I have a good feeling about Montgomery.
