In the future don't distort someone else's statements to make them easier to attack, you'll get along better than way.

I'm a bit surprised. I would have thought there were still too many questions to make a commitment.

It seems like the contract doesn't include any guarantees aside of the three weeks pay check they have to give him by promoting him from the practice squad.

There were scouts and personnel guys who thought that Clay Matthews would never make it as an OLB and that Jordy Nelson would never be more than just a guy. Take their assessments with a grain of salt.

I agree with your take on scouts but Janis hasn't shown anything so far to make me think they were wrong about him.

come on guys. Dont get so caught up in evaluating the evaluators. You have to take in the whole and see if a teams talent is increasing or decreasing. Talent evaluators are all very good at defining players as they come out. Every pick, though, is some kind of balance between risk and reward.

You never know if those players you pick work hard and continue to improve or start enjoying the fruits of wealth is another matter. I think the ability to assess character is the biggest difference between TT and an ordinary GM.

Since everyone is arguing about whether the “experts” get right or not I thought it would be fun to crunch some quick and simple numbers by looking at the 2014 All-Pro Team vs. their draft position. I did not include the kickers because they are always drafted late and they greatly skew the numbers. For instance, if I include the kickers the average draft position falls from 53 to 67. Also for an undrafted player I used a draft position of 250.

So below is the full all pro team along with their draft some position and here are some quick numbers:

Average Draft Position: 53 (2nd round)

Median Draft Postion: 24 (1st round)

# of top 10 picks: 6 those were 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 9th x2

# of 1st round picks: 14

58% of the team was drafted in the 1st round.

# of 2nd round picks: 4

75% of the team was drafted in the 1st 2 rounds.

# of 3rd round picks: 3

#of 4th round picks: 1

# of 5th round picks: 1

# of 6th round picks: 1

# of 7th round picks: 0

# of undrafted picks: 1

25% of the team was drafted after the 2nd round

I actually find this a bit fascinating. I wish I had all day long to sit around and figure this out for every single year. So what I am seeing looking at this is that the experts generally get right. Now of course there are probably hundreds of 1st round picks playing in the NFL that did not make last years all pro team so it may look like they did not get it right but there are only 24 spots available on the all pro team each year so of course there are going to be a lot of 1st round picks each year that do not make the cut.

Anyway, last year 75% of the all pro team was drafted in the 1st 2 rounds with 58% of that being 1st rounders. Again, this was all quick and dirty numbers but it seems to me that the experts probably get it right more often than not as it appears there are not a lot of players that get drafted after the 2nd round that get recognized as the best of the best.

So who delivers the biggest bang for the buck? Sherman? Gronk? Dez? A-rod? Sherman was one of the lucky darts.

I think for overall value to the team it has to be Rodgers even though he was picked at 24. For overall draft value based on position it would have to be Sherman at 154 although I think a strong case could be made for Gronk as well. Is it any coincidence that the Patriots won another SB in a season where Gronk was finally healthy for the entire season? The guy is match up nightmare and although the Pats would still be great team without him, I don't know if they would be quite as good.

What are yalls thoughts on Abbrederis? Do you think if given a good opportunity and sufficient amount of playing time could he develop into a really good WR?

I personally have a good feeling about him. In the small amount of him I've seen of him I see a lot of potential. I just got a good feeling about him.
I completely second that. He looked fantastic and he has the speed we've been missing. He could very well be a nice chunk of the puzzle we've been missing

I would rather see Janis get some time on the field. He will have the longevity over Abby and has playmaker potential. He also has something this offense desperately needs and that is speed.

You got to go with your guys. Cobb and Adams are healthy. Jones is a solid target he has proven. And though Jones isn't a speed demon. Neither is abbey imo. Cobb and Adams have plenty of speed and quickness... My thought is the problem is mostly oline. They are bad. Playing bad I should say. Leading to rodgers playing it safe. Mccarthys method. Without the deep threat he is getting squashed

Janis gets all the hype; but this kids already passed him up now that he (was/is?) healthy. There were signs that I think some of the more insightful posters here pointed out that already saw this coming. The fact he was picked ahead of Janis; torched 1st round pick Bradley Roby for 10 and 207 his Senior year. Could actually understand the playbook. While he may not have the physical attributes of the former, he's done something the other has yet to show, a promising performance at the NFL level in his much more limited time.

The only thing that has held this kid back and might continue to do so is his health. If he can stay healthy, I can see him hopefully taking some snaps from James Jones who has struggled mightily as of late.

Janis 4.42

Jared 4.5

Their 40 times
It helps to look at their best time from the combine as well, which was:

Janis- 4.30
Jared-4.44

Great speed for both, but Janis is particularly impressive, especially for his size. But apparently they only want receivers out there who have every single route down, and Abbrederis seems to be more likely to be that guy. I still think Janis could help this offense in a limited role.

Physical attributes can go a long way during game time. Vernon Davis didn't have much variation in his route running, but he was effective because he out-matched any defender on him.

And to say Janis has done nothing to show promise is untrue. A good portion of passes he caught during preseason went for TDs, which is why so many people are surprised he hasn't been utilized. And he made a couple of heads up plays that resulted in long gains this year, and has done nothing but show effort during ST duties.

With Jones being shut down as of late and Adams proving he's not a reliable WR, I think they could try any other guys they've got.

Veron Davis 2 catches for 19 yards vs KC and openly *****ing why he isn't more involved in Denver's offense
