I know this is posted randomly in different topics, but here's a link to a chart by one of the beat writers for Dallas that pretty much sums it up: http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/da...uries-can-cowboys-use-health-as-an-excuse.ece

Needless to say, the most costly IR person for the 49ers is Mario Manningham. And 49ers have only missed 8 games. In contrast, Bishop was lost in the first pre-season game and we've had 83 games missed.

Actually, the biggest loss for the 49ers has been Kendall Hunter and Justin Smith for the past 3 games.

I just quoted what the chart had for the biggest-named player to go on the IR. You're right about Smith being the biggest loss, but that's been 1.5 games only.

To put it into perspective, how'd the 9-ers defense have done without Aldon Smith, Willis and his backup, and Gholson (sp?) out for extended periods of time at the same time? Then toss in a couple DL and your number 2 CB as well. That's what the Packers defense has dealt with this season.

THIS IS THE CRAP that p****es me off the most.... I am tired of this.
I want our 1st round picks at LT and RT.
I Want our 1st round pick at LOLB, Nick Perry.

I want our best ILB, Bishop, back. Take away Navorro Bowman or Patrick Willis.

Justin Smith has only missed a game & a half. Not IR'd. BEFORE the season started, like Bishop. He was our physical force in the middle.

It should be Vernon Davis out, not Manningham or the fumbler. Just think, of Kyle Williams had been hurt last year instead, the Niners would have certainly gone to the Super Bowl because he was the gifter to the Giants.

It's kind of funny the first person he lists as the "biggest loss" is the backup RB! Yet, our top-2 RB's right now were street free agents midway through the season.

Exactly.
This is bu****t.
Take away Bowman or Willis (you choose), and take away Ahmad Brooks.

Also, for about 5 games, take away Aldon Smith.

And for about 9 games, take away Dashon the ACL-Hunter Goldson.

Oh, whoever their DT pass rush specialist comparable to our #2 pick Jerel worthy this year, take him away too.

Don't forget our 2 best OT's, 1st round picks in 2010 & 2011, are both on IR.
Meanwhile both of their 1st round youngsters Mike Iupati and Anthony Davis, are miraculously just fine.
So are all their other OL.

To even things out, I just tweeted for Jerron McMillian to knock off Vernon Davis or Michael Crabtree's head.

Just for grins, let's look at BOTH sides of the ball and compare the Packers depth chart to the 49ers.

Using the Packers injuries to define the template, I color coded the chart approximately as follows:

Dark red = significant injury (IR, or most of season lost)
Med red = 4-8 games missed
Lt red = 1-4 games missed

So, in this hypothetical situation, how well would the 49ers have been had they lost Gore for the bulk of the season (and backups injured as well), the entire O-line messed up with two gone for the season, the top two WRs missing many games, both Willis and his backup gone, and Whitner?

Or, said another way: How good would the Packers be if they were NOT the most injured team in all the NFL this year? (and last year, and the year we won the Super Bowl).

You forgot Hunter and Perry. You may want to redo those rosters and add Collins

I see what you mean, but if you take those players away then the Niners aren't even .500. Losing Willis, Aldon, and Goldson would be like you losing Rodgers....IE, those are their best players.

Again...not a fair comparison. LB, Safety, and D Line aren't your best positions and reasoins for winning. Take away Rodgers and how do you do?

Right...and how much of your offense is based on the run game? Hunter was getting several carries a game and was averaging 5 yards per carry.

Hunter wasn't the "backup RB", He was option 1A in the run game for a team that runs the ball ALOT. Losing Hunter would be like you guys losing a key cog in the pass game...like say Nelson or Cobb. I know you lost those guys for periods, I'm just trying to illustrate that Hunter was a big piece of the offense.

Look...you guys had more injuries. No doubt. However, you have the big equalizer in Aaron Rodgers. When you have the best QB in the NFL, it covers a number of other problems.

The 49ers are a run based team who depends alot less on the QB. If the 49ers had taken all those losses that you are talking about, they would have faired far worse because you would essentially be removing the best players on the team and they don't have Aaron Rodgers to cover.

No doubt, the Packers have been bit more by injury. Would you rather have a team without the injuries or the team WITH injuries and you get Aaron Rodgers.

Think about it.

You may also want to add Brandon Jacobs back onto the 9ers roster since he was only recently released and he probably wouldn't have been crying about carries if Gore got hurt at the same point in the season as Benson did.

Also you may want to make the lite red a little darker because it is really hard to differentiate between it and the while background. Eye poping graph none the less man.

I'd much rather have my team with Aaron Rodgers - without injury. Sort of a no brainer there.

My answer to that question depends on who wins this Saturday! :)

I forgot about Perry (how'd I do that?) and Hunter. Oops. And, yes, Jacobs probably stays on the team had Gore gone down... But, it's just a silly hypothetical anyhow.

Good point regarding the fact that the one spot that the Packers could not afford injury (QB) was avoided, and that isn't the key spot for 49ers considering they have a reasonable backup. But, I would think that one's starting middle LB is pretty much key for all teams. Losing Bishop for the entire season was a huge loss. Then his backup goes down. Just flicking ridiculous.

Just look at all that red, though, on the chart. That sucks.

Here's my chart, with ALL the additions. Now if some kind 49ers fan would be willing to create a chart, and work with me on equivalency.

I'm thinking Gore, Hampton, Walker, Crabtree, Staley, A.Davis, Jean Francois, Bowman, Haralson, Brooks, Cox, Whitner, Goldson, and McBath are about right for the Bright Red (and that's spotting you a 5th string RB)

Good chart, Hypon. I forgot a ton of guys. Saine, Zombo, Richardson... Geez, I thought I had a good memory.

Gore = Benson. Pretty much the only decent comparison with Benson's possible 1000 yard season, we were really starting to rely on him.
Jacobs/Hampton = Saine/White. Bottom of the chart guys, though Saine saw the field every now and again, like Jacobs. (I'll take Jacobs because he's already gone, but you can give us Dixon instead if you want)
Walker = Quarless. Both do it all guys
Crabtree = Jennings. Best comparison I see, both guys are #1's, both guys do better in the slot.
Tackle for Tackle. We had 2 first rounders, no negotiation
Jean Francois = Worthy. Both primary backups
Bowman = Bishop. Bishop was our best cover man, and really, was our best ILB, which means Willis is technically comparable.
Haralson = Smith. I assume since he's already on IR I won't see complaints?
Brooks = Perry. Not your star OLB, but still important
Cox = Hous. With Culliver now bumping above him, Cox is that 4th CB who could start.
Collins = Whitner. Collins was better than Whitner IMO.
Goldson = Woodson. Comparable at least, Woodson IS a future HOF candidate
McBath = Richardson. Both 3rd string

I think Kaep and Rodgers are more comparable than you want to admit and you know it. Take Smith out of the equasion and go with Tolzien, and you'll see what I mean.

The Niners only have ONE guy on IR? Are you serious?
And Seattle has ZERO (that will change now that they finally lost a guy, Clemons, in their playoff game).

New England also has ZERO ZERO ZERO guys on IR? Wow.
How lucky for those teams.....

Seattle & San Fran, the 2 NFC West teams.... I think those guys on the left coast there, Bonds, McGwire, Canseco, Sherman, Brandon Browner.... I think they have the best, most aggressive PED program out there, keeps them from getting hurt as much as our guys or something..... ours get hurt all the time. 2010 was no aberration.
Sadly.

Hmm, good point. I know about Mario, Hunter, and Williams.
Why does Gosselin only have 1 next to SF for IR here? http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/da...uries-can-cowboys-use-health-as-an-excuse.ece

I'd say that it was the number of people on IR at the time that the article was posted, but there is no posting date so I'm not sure. The only other reasonable conclusion I can think of is that maybe he was only counting people that were listed as starters.
