The Green Bay Packers Had won two straight World Championships and the 1st Super Bowl.
The day was Dec. 31st 1997, the temperature at dawn in Green Bay was 29 degrees below zero.
The opponent was the Dallas Cowboys who the Packers had beaten in Dallas on January 1, 1997 34-27 for their 2nd straight World Championship.
Green Bay was decimated by injury during the regular season having lost their starting backfield of Grabowski and Pitts to injury. They were reduced to signing players off the street such as Chuck Mercien.
Bart Starr had been injured during the season and had been replaced by Zeke Bratkowski during the last two weeks of the season.
The Packers lost the last 2 games of the season for the 1st time since 1958. This signaled the end of the Packers dynasty.
But wait, they fought through age and injury and beat the Cowboys on that frigid day 21-17 earning their 3rd straight World Championship.
After beating The Oakland Raiders 33-14 in Super Bowl II on January 14, 1998 Vince Lombardi turned the Packers over to Phil Bengston.
Two years later Vince Lombardi was dead.
It took almost 3 decades for the Green Bay Packers to get back to the big dance.
