It's a definite sign that things are boring when a bunch of teachers start a pool to see how long it takes to move a house.

An historic house from the University district is being moved to a site directly across the street from the playground of my school. The distance of the move is 2.6 miles. On Monday, out of pure boredom with the lousy weather and no football we started a pool as to when it would sit down on the new foundation.

The house started it's trip bright and early Monday morning at 6:00am and traveled exactly 1/2 mile. On Tuesday it got on to Rattlesnake Drive and the fun began. This road climbs considerably and is fairly winding. I can now look out my gym door windows and see the house making it's way up the road at an energentic 5 feet a minute. It's about 3 blocks away, and if I guessed right, it should sit down on the foundation at 1:48 pm today.

We've even got the kids guessing when it will be down. If some little 4th grader wins, we're gonna flunk him. I'll let you know when "touchdown" occurs.

Well, for Greg Jennings, let's see...
Big house. 2.6 miles. Probably about 10 seconds.

By the way, what did you bet? I doubt your students read this forum so it's safe to say here.

We bet a couple of bucks each. The kids got in free, but if one of them wins the principal and I (both Packer fans) will treat the kid to lunch.

The house is about 700 feet from touchdown. 11:10 AM

how much further? Has anyone ever seen the movie "Rat Race"? This reminds me of when the rich guys get together and start betting on everything; who'll puke first on the airplane, the syrup flavor inside chocolates, how nasty of a sexual scenario it takes before the hooker says "no way".

I have that movie and each time we watch it we laugh ourselves sick.

I think I might be close to calling it correctly. 62 minutes until my time call and they are now maneuvering the house around a corner and it's a straight 75 foot shot onto the foundation.
Man, the suspense is killing me. This is better than the Super Bowl, the World Series and sex all rolled into one.

I WON...I WON...I WON!!!! I won a major award....a whopping 6 bucks. Somebody rifled the cash box it looks like. The last beam went out at 2:02 PM and the house is sitting on the new foundation.

This was slick. We had the classes watching and my PE class was outside playing capture the flag in the snow. They had a road built right through the middle of the foundation and the pulling truck went right down the middle. When she got the house to a point in the middle she jockeyed the rig back and forth a few times and they lined it up...took a half hour...and then the whole carrying rig lowered itself very slowly and doggone it, every corner and edge lined up perfectly on the foundation. The beams holding the house are now in what will be the basement and an excavetor is taking out the road through the middle.

The house is not small...two story brick and wood, and 2800 square feet. It's amazing how these guys do these things. The driver was a woman in case you noticed my "she" reference to the driver.

"Be sure to eat your Ovaltine. Ovaltine? Son of a B_ _ _ _! :x A crummy advertisement?"

We watch that movie every Christmas. A must for Holiday entertainment.

The house looks good and with my winnings I'm taking the little lady out for a meal from the dollar menu at Mickey D's. :)
