Message: <blockquote data-quote="Half Empty" data-source="post: 747626" data-attributes="member: 10288"><p>Several subsequent posts point the young ones to the period between Starr and Favre, but I didn't see anyone specifically address the question.  For me, the easy answer is lowered expectations.  I knew, going in, that a championship was out of the question, and the playoffs were probably a pipe dream, too.  Hence, every week was 'a win is a win' situation, and if it was against a significant rival, or a big upset, or knocked another team out of contention, it was something that would carry us through the week.  Because we've had basically 20+ years of success (in terms of W-L record, playoffs, division championships, et. al.) individual wins are no longer something to hang one's hat on.  For those that feel as I do, much of this century has been more of a downer than the Gory Years, simply because they haven't been the Lovable Losers that could smile at, shake our heads, and move one - they've blown chances for what was a realistic expectation of the ultimate prize.</p></blockquote><p></p>
